future Mercedes-AMG plug-in hybrids will be outfitted with the car manufacturer’s third-generation PHEV system, already offered in variations of the C-Class, E-Class, and S-Class. This incorporates a powerful electric motor with 121 hp and 325 lb-ft (440 Nm) of torque while offering an all-electric range of 31 miles (50 km).

If this news is true ... then perhaps there is a slight hope the E63S facelift will be electrified too ... Hmm. pretty interesting. If it does not happen, then for sure on the next gen.

I'd be surprised if MBUX makes it into the facelift. It requires so many changes (sensors all over to capture gestures, higher bandwidth all around, integration with cameras ...) in addition to a totally different head unit with the compute power of a supercomputer, that it really needs to be designed into the car from the ground up. It knows if it's the driver or the passenger who's gesturing. That takes all kinds of new cameras and motion sensors -- not easily grafted on to an existing interior. I really think we're looking at 214 for MBUX.

Looks like the quad outlets are back ... much nicer, IMO.

Same changes on the sedan. The front has the new upside-down shaped Panamericana grille.

I'm not really a fan of the hockey stick LED swoosh on the GLE, A-Class, CLA, AMG GT, AMG GT 4-door, CLS, B-class, etc. A little biased but I prefer the current headlight design. Panamerica grill is a take it or leave it thing, but I don't like the direction they've taken with headlight design. It worked fine for the AMG GT but then they decided to put it on everything.

my biggest fear at this point is what are they going to do to the exhaust sound?
i'm in the market for a E63s early next year switching from the dark side (BMW). Initially I wanted to hold off until September/October to get a face lifted model but all the reports about the C63s being toned down and lack of pops and crackles makes me want to pull the trigger on a 2020 ...

a bit more info update with some speculated details
- exhaust noise reduction (pretty sure it's confirmed)
- a bit of power bump (speculation still) but comes with heavier weight, thus could make it a "wash" in improvement

just watched the videos and its sad to see the rumble go. Maybe we can keep the noise in NA since there are no such laws here, but will be interesting to see what happens. If the 2021 is any less an AMG then I might keep mine a long time too. I like the front just fine too. The rear end can use some tweaks but otherwise the current car is lovely.

i feel like all of my car friends have embraced electric. i’m the last person i know who isn’t a fan of moving from ICE to electric to the point where it feels like i’m the 1 wrong guy out of a group of 100.
it’ll be very sad if this really happens. i get emissions and technology but i thought roots were roots.

If the v8+hybrid does not get fitted into the facelift version, pretty sure it will be on the next gen. The GT63S is already scheduled to have it in about 1 year time, possibly calling it GT73.

That’s a different system. The 63 will be a mild non plug in hybrid similar to the 53s and 580 tied to a small 1kwh battery and adds minimal amounts of power but reduces turbo lag and improves fuel consumption. The 73 is a full on plug in hybrid, much bigger battery that can drive in full EV mode, tied to a much larger battery, and increases power significantly with a much larger electric motor. The 73 is a replacement for the 65.
