Monoblocks from GT63s

This is kind of a nothing thread...but my friend just got his order guide for his GT63s, and there they were.

Is anyone going to give these a go at 21"?

Ugliest wheels Mercedes makes. Even a sin on the GT 4 door.

Might as well just buy some hub caps ;)

Michael Khan 04-18-2019 12:27 PM

Oh! my eyes, my eyes.

Dunga 04-18-2019 01:21 PM

In my humble peasant opinion they’re only acceptable on a Maybach as a faux Bentley heritage wheel. The fact that AMG is offering them on their GT63 is astonishing. Just because you can doesn’t mean you should!!

b0rderman 04-18-2019 01:28 PM

Just to be clear this is not April Fools...I actually love these things.

It is an AMG throwback that in my peasant opinion are blasphemy on a Maybach or Bentley or anything else.

This wheel is the most AMG thing you can put on an AMG car, besides some Turkish guy's signature on the engine.

It's actually not that bad. Need to see it in person first, but its a nice homage to what MBZ use to be.

b0rderman 04-18-2019 01:38 PM

Yea they are too damn big unfortunately...I don't envy anyone who is rocking 21s on their daily.

A homage?
I know it's a question of taste but I think these wheels are as ugly as the old Brabus Monoblock II's.

I am in (great) minority here, but I like them a lot more than these standard 19s:

Very similar to these (IMHO) beauties:

Why? It has more rubber than E63's 20s: 275/35ZR21 Fr & 315/30ZR21 Rr.

You cannot. My work here is done. I do love them on the old E-Class but they DON'T work on the current E63. Hence why I want someone else to try them and discourage my nostalgia for the originals to cloud my judgement.

Does that equate to more sidewall than the stock 20s? I've never messed with rim size on any car before.

Yes, that's why I put it out there.

Same sidewall thickness, different overall diameter. The front tire+rim is 32mm taller than stock 20"s, you lose 16mm of arch gap. Rears are 38mm taller, resulting in ~19mm of arch gap loss...and then there's offset, which I can't find for the monoblocks. Some rubbing is likely, depending on offset.
