upgrade braking

So I regret never getting CCB on my car. No point in getting them installed aftermarket but are there any good brake upgrades for the e63 besides the stock one for better stopping power. I do a lot of track driving, back road runs and rallies and my biggest issues is the brakes on my car. I was thinking of looking into some brake ducts to get better cooling into that area.

I gotta figure out a solution, I am trying to look into brake ducts to increase cooling. It would make some pretty decent improvements.

Get Endless MX72 Pads + Steel Brake lines and Castrol SRF React Racing Fluid. Helps a ton. Stock discs are fine.

The horses are now in the barn, 2019 E63s
I'd like to know how that single piston floating caliper for the rear brakes holds up track and spirited road driving.

I don't understand why AMG went to that system over the 4 pot Brembo it replaced. That would definitely be at the top of my brake upgrade list.

I've also heard Kevlar over steel for upgrading the brake lines but I'm sure the cost is not similar.

Stock discs are fine.

I am using porterfield R4S for street use and R4 for track use (louder). These can be easily swapped in about an hour for all 4 corners.

Just be aware that folks are seeing a lot more rear brake wear than you'd expect. The culprit is very active engagement of the traction control and stability protection system. In anything but race mode you'll see the yellow icon on the dash flicker on frequently during spirited driving and heavy throttle applications. Rear brakes are engaging most of the time when that happens.

About brake lines

Be careful swapping brake lines. I’ve had trouble with these in the past not working out as planned and I find my piece of mind is worth so much more then pedal feel.

hit up @ronin amg - I believe he felt brake fade even with the CCBs and he had the dealer change the brake fluid to a different brand. Something about the fluid reaching its boiling point too early causing the fade.

Is Ronin off suspension yet?

In addition to some fade in the canyons, he also suffered the common problem of rear brakes wearing before the front. From his posts it didn't sound like he used Race mode when canyon carving so the TC would be kicking in frequently given that he is pushing the wagon pretty hard.

Even my underpowered Jeep Wrangler Rubicon wore out the rear brakes first. Due to traction control kicking in all the time. I drive the Jeep in desert washes and other off-road places and you see the TC light winking on and off all the time. Didn't put 2 + 2 together until the dealer flagged the rear brakes on an inspection. I was surprised because the Jeep was pretty low mileage at the time. In fact is is 11 years old now and has just over 40,000 miles on it (technically a lot more since it is my tow vehicle behind the motorhome ;-) ) The TC does a pretty good job of limiting wheel spin and putting the power to the wheel that has traction, so it actually goes pretty well in 2WD mode. But that comes at the expense of rear pads and rotors.

I totally agree. The initial AMG brochure distinguished the steel brakes from the CCB upgrade with a 1-piston for the stock steel brakes, and a 4-piston rear brake for the CCB upgrade. I think it's bulls*** that MB went with the 1-piston floating even on the CCB. Porsche doesn't do it...

Our LR4 wore through rear brakes 2x faster than the fronts. I thought the tech was crazy, but even under normal driving (no off-road and certainly no "spirited" driving) these damn rear brakes get totally cooked from the ESP. I guess I'm not driving my AMG hard enough, b/c I never see (or notice) a yellow ESP light up on the dash.

Cheers

not sure if Ronin is off suspension - He does get a little agro at times! I believe I had the brake fluid convo at newcombs ranch.

funny thing is that everyone who tracks a Porsche seems to take off the CBB and go to steel, granted they are not heavy beasts like the e63.

I also had a rubicon, and yea, rear brakes where first.

I'm back tryin to sell my GTS that I really don't drive very much since the E63s wagon does everything...

I always keep the car in race mode and manual shift even running up hill. I wouldn't want to see how far off line the beast would want to go if all the aids were turned off completely.
But I'm kinda done with pushing things now, too many wrecks and deaths in the canyons since the lock-down started.
I'm gonna wait it out and wait for Darwin to do his thing once more and let the herd thin itself out...

Here's a link to make you think..
