Those two new grey paints, either high tech silver and graphite grey, would have saved me some serious cash.

Yes, it looks nearly identical to a Ford Focus.

I agree, but I think the Panamericana grill looks better when it's upside down. They did it the other way around on the C63 and it looks like a weird smiley face.

When they first showed the Panamericana grill I fell in love with it but now it's used on almost every single AMG model that there is nothing special about it anymore.

Agreed. Some of the facelift changes are welcome and I actually like the look of the car but this isn't worth upgrading to from an earlier W213.

I can only assume that some updated engine designs are not ready for prime time at the moment. Just boosting power isn't interesting as it would further undercut the GT 4 door sales, which is troubled due to poor sales...

Mercedes-AMG, Garrett developing 48V electric exhaust gas turbocharger

18 June 2020
Mercedes-AMG is moving ahead with electrification through innovative developments while also benefiting from motorsport know-how. An electric exhaust gas turbocharger, which in future will be used for the first time in a series production model, is already in the final stages of development.

Developed in partnership with Garrett Motion, this technology comes straight from Formula 1 and resolves the conflicting goals between a small, fast-reacting turbocharger which achieves relatively low peak performance and a large turbocharger with a high peak performance but which on the other hand can suffer from turbo lag.

This new turbocharging system features a slim electric motor, measuring about 4 centimeters, which is integrated directly on the charger shaft between the turbine wheel on the exhaust side and the compressor wheel on the fresh air side. This electronically-controlled electric motor drives the compressor wheel before this accepts the exhaust gas flow.

The electrification of the turbocharger significantly improves immediate response from idle speed and across the entire engine speed range. Turbo lag—the delayed response of a conventional turbocharger—is eliminated by the electric motor. The result is that the combustion engine responds even more spontaneously to accelerator pedal input, and the entire driving feel is significantly more dynamic and agile.

In addition, electrification of the turbocharger enables higher torque at low engine speeds, which also enhances agility and optimises acceleration capability from a standstill. Even when the driver takes the foot off the accelerator or applies the brakes, the technology of the electric turbocharger is able to maintain the boost pressure at all times, so that a continuous direct response is guaranteed.

The turbocharger achieves speeds of up to 170,000 rpm, which enables a very high rate of air flow. It can be operated via a 48-volt on-board electrical system. The turbocharger, electric motor and power electronics are connected to the combustion engine’s cooling circuit to create an optimum temperature environment at all times.

You'd kind of think they'd want to keep the thing spinning. What kind of inertia must that motor have and how much torque is required to spin it to 170,000 rpm quickly.

Also, how much heat the motor has to deal with. Would be really interesting to see the engineering behind this.

Looks like Brilliant Blue Magno is making its way out to other models. I am have a build slot on hold (the first one in my area, according to the sales rep) to order a 2021 E63 Wagon. I was going to custom order it in Brilliant Blue Metallic. But seeing that matte blue makes me rethink my choices.

I am actually happy to hear they softened up the suspension. That was a concern I had. I drove a 2018 wagon about a year ago and found the "comfort" setting to still be rather stiff. This is a car that really needs to be able to go from soft and comfortable to tight and sporty. That's the whole pedigree of the E63 - a sleeper supercar you can drive everyday.

Anyway, can't wait to get one. Last I heard from my dealer, it will be January or February of 2021 before the first deliveries are made.

Congrats!

The delivery is really late. It would seem the 2021 production model year is going to be pretty short then as MY 2022 DOG may be out in May/June 2021.

Yes, it is. My dealer said they are adding an extra 3 months to any special order, due to the pandemic and general slowness in deliveries. I suspect the issue is that dealers have a huge inventory backlog of 2020 models. I read somewhere that manufactures who typically run 30-45 days of inventory, now have upwards of 300 days of inventory backed up on lots or at docks.

2021 may be a very limited year for all models, especially unique, low volume units like the E63 wagon.

😫

They eliminated the IWC clock?! That is a sin! While totally useless, it is also totally cool and adds a touch of class which helps to distinguish the E63 from a standard E-class. Glad I got a 2019.

Now that's what I call EXHAUST TIPS! It's about time for the return of something you don't have to worry about shooting flame out of. Enough of the the fake, no-character, sorry-a$$ cosmetic exhaust trim piece for the past 6 years.

Sad we cant get the tinted glass on the back and rear door windows in the US:

"DC1 AMG Night Package: High-Gloss Black Elements: Front Splitter, $750 U50 Omission of Dark Tintec Windows (US regulatory requirement)"

The horses are now in the barn, 2019 E63s
I've got a 2017 Tahoe with factory tint windows all around (except the front 3) and they look every bit as dark as the Euro-spec 2021 E63s in the pic.

It sure would be nice to only have to deal with 2 instead of 5 windows.

Kinda stupid the US only allows that type of tinted glass on SUVs. I had a Dodge Magnum wagon with factory tinted privacy glass from the factory only because it was classified as SUV/Truck for some reason.

Seems like $500 for a good tint job is peanuts on a new $130k car...

Do you routinely miss the point? The issue is that the US blocked the option. Aftermarket tint film is not legal in all states.

What is really stupid is that you can't combine dark windows with accoustic comfort package anywhere in the world. So you will have to get at tinting job yourself if you would like a car with a comfortable noise level and tinted windows..

The IWC clock adds class and style to further enhance the user experience IMO. Much like we all have phones to tell the time yet many of us probably still wear a classic time piece on our wrist. Unfortunate they removed that extra touch.

Regarding tint, I believe all 50 states allow aftermarket tint (rear side windows and rear window like the factory option). Personally, I would not want the factory tint even if it were available. This is for two reasons. First, I would tint the front windows anyway and it often won’t match factory tinted windows perfectly. Second, I would go with ceramic tint which blocks heat in addition to glare far better than factory tint. I have the Acoustic Comfort Package which features UV insulated glass and adding ceramic tint made a significant difference in reducing heat than just the factory UV film alone.

Do you routinely respond like an a*hole? So unnecessary...

Aftermarket tint is allowed in all states. As long as you stay in the light transmission requirements, you’re not going to have any problems.

Yo genius! You still missed the main point. The US blocks options. You didn't even read your posted state law list. I see the word "NONE for some states so my statement about states is FACT!
