W213 VS W212
Good morning Guys,
Currently own a 2015 W212 E63 and have been on the fence of trading it in for a 2018 E63 edition 1. I currently have AMS tune and catless down pipes on my W212. I really dont see many tunes offered for the W213 or any dyno numbers behind them. I dont want a simple flash, and would prefer a dyno tune. My W212 is a monster and would hate to trade it in for something heavier and less hp and tq. My W212 currently sits at 600whp and 777ftlb of torque... How does the new e63 put up against the older model? Has anyone experienced both? I love the new tech on the W213 but just very hesitant. Let me know your feedback, thanks!

I've had both. 2014 E63s and now a 2019 E63s.
Having said that, the W213 is very much different in many ways while many of the best traits carried over.
+ The Wheels and Tires are larger and updated style
+ The Interior offer way more in technology and comfort and lighting, which really is impactful to keeping up with the modern style
+ The W213 is just more fun. Flat out more fun with the level of Dynamics between (I,C,S,S+,R) and the exhaust overruns(pops) - they do get very loud.
+ The space between each modes you can now feel, the drives modes are far more Dynamic!
+ The car is faster and more agile,
+ Easier to engage Launch Mode (MB Race Start), more violent
+ DRIFT MODE - The car does a burnout while in 2 and 3rd gear while rolling. You now have a very good reason to do a track day, oversteer is FUN with this new E63s in Rear Wheel Drive. (Find an Autocross Rally track near you and have some fun)
** As far as the tune, yes the Renntech has the HHT tuner but if you don't want a handheld, check out Weistec and look at AMR. Both will requite mailing but if you are close to a AMR shop you can do there for the tune. My 2 cents with an ECU tune, I would learn the car as much as you can, evern on the track and get a comfort level. The car is much more Dynamic now with the addition of Drift Mode. You will now have a rear wheel drive muscle car, much different than the W213 E63. Once you master the car, then find a tune. I do think though that with the speed limits being as they as in the US, tuning to anymore than 600HP may not really be needed for the reason that the car really hits its potential and the best driving experience while going through the RPM powerband and feeling the torque curve all the way to red line. Having too much power won't really allow you to experience than without doubling the speed limit in 5 seconds. Unless you are seeking a highway rocketship. I've tuned several cars and what I've learned over the years that its not worth it unless you are tuning from a 350/450 to the 550/600 range. Anything more is not needed unless you are going to set the car up for Drag Racing. Track cars are best around 500-600hp. This car can barely get the power to the ground as is.
get the 2018 W213 and enjoy it!

I totally forgot about the drift mode feature in the 213 which allows you to switch to rear wheel which is a awesome characteristic. I am truly am looking for a highway rocket ship which is how my 212 is set up now and the tq and power band on the car is truly insane. Just would like to see some real dyno number behind the w213 to ensure I will not be loosing any HP, or TQ

Personally I wouldn't pay much mind to HP numbers on a dyno give or take 15-20HP... It's really about the suspension tuning being much different, the car will be faster and with the new engine which means a bunch of things:
+ low installation position as well as optimum weight distribution between the front and rear axles.
+ The “hot inside V“ also optimises the air for turbos and exhaust
+ Better turbos
+ Better compression
+ Improved dry sump lubrication
For me it'd all about the experience, and how the car drives and feels. Can you go test drive the 2018 W213?

I agree 110%, I did have the chance to drive one home and loved it. The instantaneous power was amazing compared to my w212 having to build boost. The power was always available on the w213 which i enjoyed alot.

I have had both. My W212 E63S had the full Renntech tune and Renntech sport mufflers. It had unbelievable sound and meant to work but was always hampered by a very slow shifting MCT transmission and a crashingly harsh ride. And it was unreliable and constantly in the shop (although not for engine or transmission issues).
My W213 E63S is infinitely more comfortable with a much more sophisticated somewhat smoother suspension and a transmission that is simply worlds better than the old MCT shifts fast. Similarly my new one's interior and interior technology is worlds better than the old one.
The one area where my W212 far surpassed the W213 is sound quality. The exhaust noise/engine noise on my W212 was worlds bigger and better and meaner than my current one which sounds quiet by comparison.

Also - if you do want even more from the car you can always get the Exhaust modification to open the valves fully on any drive mode. That will increase the sound profile. https://renntechmercedes.com/index.p...490-213-detail

How is the turbo spool under slow/medium load on the w213. My 212 turbos sound sooooooo good when under minimal/medium load. Almost sounds like a diesel truck lol.

The W213 is a very different car. Much less raw and more refined with a much smoother shifting transmission and ride. A better DD and faster acceleration. But it lacks the visceral rawness of the W212. The W212 is a beast all the time. The W213 is more like Dr Jekyl and Mr Hyde

The W213 is better in every single way, and it's much faster stock vs stock, and tuned vs tuned.

My 2019 W213 E63S is a huge improvement over the W212 in every single way except one - engine/exhaust note/noise. The W213
is a good deal more quiet.

Wolfman do you know if the track pace came on the edition 1? I am still debating whether to keep my 212 or get the 213. I will only settle for an edition 1 with extremely low miles or a fully loaded 213 with all the options and low miles. Basically looking for a unicorn.

It did not,
It started appearing on the cars after the mid-year refresh. Not sure of exactly when it was cut in but it was on my car which had a build date of Oct 6, 2018. I think maybe Sept or late August.
There were a number of other features that came along with the refresh such as improved interior cabin LED lighting colors and animation.

Our build date was 7/17/2018, it has Track Pace and all the lighting improvements. Prior to this 2018 we had a 2014 W212. There was nothing about the W212 that we preferred over the W213. The new one is better in every way in our opinion.

the 2021 is even better. the head unit/MBUX infotainment update is remarkable. pretty much same interior though. with the OBD ECU flashing solved and the CPC + TCU flashes that are being sold these days, i've read of 0 people blowing any motors and 0 people blowing any transmissions if they weren't launching at a raised RPM hard on a tune. talking about a super comfortable 700-750hp daily driver with a great exhaust note and pretty good handling. classy too

I wonder how much more power you can put to the ground with no ecu modification but a full TCU/CPC tune......Maximum use of stock power under most circumstances

they did a pretty good job of calibrating the limits from the factory
i didn’t notice a change really
but ecu no cpc -> epc and cpc, big change
