Daily driving a E63
Hi guys
This is to the folks who DD their E63
What are the things to lookout for ?
I dont do alot of driving maybe 10k km /yr (short drives )
I am looking at getting a 2018 e63 WITH 52K KM
What are your thoughts on extended warranty ? I got a quote for 5k for 5yrs and I will be taking it .

I keep an eye out on how long the gas line is at Costco when passing by. W213 E63 drinks more gas than W212 E63 for non-highway driving.
Otherwise, RMS seems to be the only major problem at the moment.

Is this factory extended warranty (which is only offered for +2 or + 3 yrs from in service date ? If it is aftermarket, there could be lots of loopholes or exclusions of warranted items, therefore, you will have to be extra careful.
Yes. Rear Main Seal is the problem for many 2018 (at least reported and talked about in this forum), some 2019 onwards. It is strongly advisable to do a comprehensive inspection.

And in IME W213 is about 1-1.5mpg worse. W212 computer routinely read close to 17mpg vs 15.5mpg on W213. YMMV.

another data point.
With my 212 I routinely get 14.5 in aggressive sport+ City driving and have seen 25-27 on long road trips. This is solely based on the computer doing the math. With my speedy (pedal to the metal) seven mile commute, I can’t get better mpgs unfortunately.

I DD mine. Things to watch out for:
1. Your speed. Easy to hit takeoff speed, so restraint is important!
2. W212 vs W213 mileage regardless, mileage is crap and expect to buy a lot of premium gas.
3. Remember how much fun it is to drive when you're buying gas. A tank is about 280 miles of e ticket fun, well worth it.
4. Occasionally you'll get cornered with questions and compliments. Just go with it.
5. Yeah, repairs will be very expensive if you don't have an extended warranty. But if you want cheap buy a Toyota.

IME/YMMV means an even mix of LA suburban streets, stop lights and stop signs every quarter mile, street traffic, and freeways.
My W212 read around 16.4mpg before I sold it.
My GLC43 reads around 18.5mpg. All same driving areas/routines.

We daily drive ours in Brooklyn with runs out east on the weekends (102 miles each way)...
1. mine is a 2018 with 40K on it.. no issues with the seal (as of yet)
2. with my wife driving the car will get 19 mph on the highway.
3. I just changed my front pads to EBC reds and they were $170 for the pads and its an easy self install. The rotors were fine so no need to change them. (rear pads still had plenty of meat)
4. the car isn't the quietest on the road (mine is a wagon)
5. the seats aren't the most comfortable over long hauls.. (they sink pretty far in the middle and the bolsters are tight even opened up (I'm 6.2 @195 so a pretty slim person)
6. I have dedicated snows on the car and it is fabulous in foul conditions.
7. You must and I mean must keep above 40lbs of pressure in the front tires or you will have blowouts because of pot holes. (the car is pretty heavy).. the needed high pressure also adds to the road noise.
8. Everybody that you pass will give you a thumbs up... it's amazing how many people recognize how special the car is (and my car is badgeless)
It's a keeper.

Rotors should last more than one brake pad change, maybe 12-20k miles. EBC Redstuff pads aren't expensive, a few hundred $, make less dust, and brake job is easy DIY or easier for any shop.

Does anyone have issues with the keylessGo on their E63?
I feel it works sometimes and I have to remove the key and push the button to unlock sometimes

I think there’s a module in the trunk that can get wet and water damage if rear window gets tinted without installer taking precautions to prevent water from dripping down the bottom into the module.

Didn’t necessarily have to be. I had a local shop turn my original rotors for 15 bucks a piece, and I replaced my original pads with Powerstop Z23 pads (literally zero dust), for 200 front and rear. Yes, essentially full brake job for 200 bucks. I assume you spent thousands 😳.
