I'm an idiot
Have done something stupid today to my new car.
I have a 2017 E43 Japanese wagon import here in Australia. Because the Japan FM radio stations do not cover the whole spectrum here, a mate and i was looking around in the settings with my Launch scanner to see if it was a simple change. Found a setting under - system select information communication audio / command variant coding tuner app 031 range type am/fm was set to japan there we found a drop down list with various countries names listed, ie; europe / japan / australia / korea etc so we picked "australia" we made a backup of existing settings then pressed write.... well the dash went to japanese writing between the gauges, the infotainment writing and the spoken "insert ETC card" is in japanese.... so we went back in and hit restore, made no difference. went back in and changed back to Japan, made no difference. How screwed am I? |
Don't call yourself an idiot for experimenting a nearly good idea.
This may be a limitation of the scanner or the car itself. Plug car on a Xentry system to gain perfect compatibility.... |

You can try to unplug the battery and wait until all the modules go to sleep and see if the radio will restart.

Extremely knowledgeable, patient, and tenacious when confronting any problem. :y |
Unfortunately joining Benzninja Is a bit cost prohibited at the moment. The exchange rate is the killer. The 750$ joining fee is close to 1200$Au at the moment. Then there's the cost of all the other equipment needed.

It's the Japanese electronic toll road payment tag system. There's a small box in the glovebox that takes a sim card of some sort and a transmitter on top of the dash above the defroster air ventilation. Without a card inserted it gives a visual and spoken warning when engine is started.

And yes, you are right, equipment will cost another $600 or so. |
Sorry, I thought i read it as 750$ joining fee somewhere a few weeks ago when I was researching the car.
499$US is about 780$AU at today's rate, makes it a bit easier to swallow. Will investigate some more over the next few days. Apart from fixing my radio and text stuff up and then setting to Australian frequency's , I was thinking - - changing the blinker count, - remove reverse gong, - change the nav / maps to Australia - transmission last mode remember - update any module software What are some good / recommended mods to look at? Is there a coding price list available? |
All that you can find it here on forum completely free, you only need to use search function, to buy a 20USD Openport interface and to use a Windows laptop with all security enabled. This way you will learn too and you can contribute here as well.

That is not too bad, especially given the support and ease of access you have.

When the vehicle was imported from Japan, was it subjected to a homologation by the importer? I'm assuming when in Japan it was configured as it now exists with Japanese enunciations. Seems strange that it's now stuck there and can't be converted back to Aussie. Any chance its import itinerary can be traced back to see if someone along the way can assist?

Also, if you want to save time and money, just get a one-time service from @EleBest (from his signature: Elebest - MB Original upgrade and retrofit, Coding and Programmer: Whatsapp direct link: +6597335000 ). He is a forum sponsor vendor here, and go-to person for so many people around. I believe he is the only one besides RJ who also can code new MBUX cars too. I've used him several times fo a single item service (no subscription fees or things like that, no equipment renting or items that need to be shipped with waiting time, all fully remote if you have a cable and your own PC). |

Or do what cosworth2000 suggested, disconnect the battery, wait a while, and hook it back up. It can't hurt and, as it is just one big computer network, it just might come back up properly.
