CLS 63 Stock Exhaust System

Hi,

I'm sorry if this has been discussed already; I tried a search but could not find anything in the forum.

Does the CLS63 AMG have an electronically controlled exhaust that keeps the sound levels in check at lower rpm but opens up higher up the rev range. I was able to just pull a fuse on my DB9 which just kept the exhaust fully open so I could enjoy the sound from idle and not just after 3500rpm. Something similar on the CLS would be amazing.

Many thanks.

Ok well here is my take and I have had 6 amgs, 4 m's, 3 turbo Porsches, 2 supra turbos, and choice few other one off models (GTR, S4). The the M157 engine in stock format is a wonderful sounding stock exhaust- better IMHO than a stock N/A E63 which I owned. Remove the resonator and the car improves in a very measureable way. The throatiness and deep rumble is aweseome under load yet it doesnt have that heavy interior drone at lower rpms. I love driving my CLS and the wagon because of the speed and power but also because of the engine sound. I like it even better than I did my M6 with the Meisterschaft Race exhaust; albeit two different sounds. The M6 was very F1'ish while the M157 is down low and mean. But normally one does not expect this type of sound from a turbo engine. Benz got it right.

Remove the resonator. News at 11.

I agree with Vic on the res delete if you want more sound.

Here is the link to the discussion thread on the res delete option for the M157, which will give you everything you need to know. It includes video and sound of both the straight pipe and x pipe options. My video and sound includes 1-2 and 2-3 shifts under load and once you hear that you will be sold --- the bark while in M mode on those shifts from the exhaust is amazing.

Ill be honest, when I first heard about AMG replacing its N/A predecessor for a forced induction V8, I was shaking my head.
Mainly due to the fact that I didn't think it wouldn't sound as good.
Boy was wrong! Benz really did get it right with the M157.
The engine just sounds BRUTAL!!
