How do you know the AFR? Do you have an exhaust probe and monitor it while you are driving or are you just relying on what the ecu map says?

other plugs are fine and they were dark a bit, i guess i thought they were kind of melted, but i was wrong,

this plug looks like it was one of the fualty ones.

will keep you guys updated on what the dealer's final dicision and its going towards fixing it under warranty.

tomorrow they will reply to me.

by the sensor and Lamda

even when the car was stock i checked it and i thougt 12.5 is lean for FI cars.

just to all let you know, i have been driving it like crazy @ high speeds and when i say that i mean it

to be able to give a hard time for Aventador, other modded cars also is joyful.

but to have bad Spark plug is painful

Sorry to hear about that Ali,
Hope everything gets taken care of soon and there isn't any major repairs.

Btw would the tune have to do anything with your spark plug issue?
Which tune are you running?

How much power has your car put down on the dyno? Maybe the fuel system is at its limits.

Guys - Not sure if this would help to deduct anything here but my plugs went just days after I go my tune back. There was no noted correlation between the two and the car was fixed under warrenty.

How many miles do you have on your car? I got the first batch of 63s back in end of Aug and had it tuned a month after I got it. I've only put 4k miles on it since Sept though. I've not had any issues yet. I've had it to the dragstip several times since and I've been running it pretty hard.

Not even 4000. Had a build date of 8/4....Had my fair share of bad luck so far but still love the beast.

Yes it helps! You had CEL coming on and that's why you took your car to the dealer and detected you had some faulty plugs, Ali didn't have CEL on and that's why his plugs where working perfectly until they melted from detention! I hope he get it fixed under warranty cuz a new engine goes for 48k euros

I understand Ali backing up his tuner by not mentioning who he is and blaming it on the plugs.

Respectfully disagree.

Backing up his tuner would be saying "hey guys, nothing to hide, I have XYZ tune, but from everything we can tell it's definitely not the tune. This was simply a hardware failure due to a bad plug, and/or perhaps a bad tank of gas, etc., and running the car very, very hard. That's it."

Ironically, choosing to intentionally hide who the tuner is, actually adds suspicion and credibility to the idea that the catastrophic engine failure was, to some degree, tune related.

im not backing up anyone, but untill now investgation is runing and today i will get a reply either it was a fualty plug or from the tune.

all other plugs were 100% fine and they were not melting but diffrent color.

the dealer is trying hard to be accurate if it is one of the fualty plugs or not by checking date of manufactured plug and serial number, etc.

i hope it is a fualty and will be fixed under warranty.

other than that, i don't think parts will cost more than $3000. but labor will be

they were nto melting, bad eye , lol

i think the damage package are:

1. engine head & valves
2. engine head, piston ring, valve
3. engine head, piston ring, valve, and bore got scrached.
4. or maybe only valves.

i hope it is number 4.

but can't know untill they open up the engine or stick a micro camera from spark plug place to see.

so a bad tank of gas would break a plug but not turn on CEL?? every guy that experienced a faulty plug had the CEL on before a plug fails to damage anything, don't blame the engine for a bad tune, raising limits and advancing a tune can easily destroy an engine, it doesn't happen straight away it takes a couple of hard miles, i changed my plugs after CEL came on, did you have a problem with your spark plugs?

LOL

the pictures are for the failure plug only,

and i saw another plug removed and its fine ( grey from using it ) as tech says other plugs are 100% fine, thats why they are going towards it is a fualty plug.

these engines came on CL/S for 2011 model, which is 1 year before CLS, and tech thinks they installed old plugs from wharehouse that was brought before CLS was preduced which makes it one of the fualty batch.

i think everyone knows who i tune my cars with

i am not hiding anything, and i don't think any tuned CLS drived above 300km for long long time like i did.

so all tuned CLS63TT owners, please try driving your cars for 10 times above 300km and each time for atleast 2 minutes staying above 300km and let me know how the engine will handle it

most of the tuned ones only for drag or short sprint

the only owner i know reached 300km is for sure dbasons55

i already found after market plug.

it is painful to know our spark plugs are the same for E350 CGI engines.

3.5 NA VS 5.5 FI , yet same spark plugs.

so lets get this sorted, your car had the older version pugs the faulty ones correct? so that could be a reason it failed, you did not have the newer upgraded plugs correct? now if the tune was bad and there was detonation you would think more than just 1 plug would show damage from the lean condition but you state that the rest of the plugs are fine and show normal wear correct? only the one plug is damaged and melted correct? and I assume it's in cylinder #5 where you state the compression was 30lbs, like you mentioned something in that cylinder has to be broken for it not to have compression, do you remember if it built up compression when cranking and then dropped or it never got over 30 at anytime, did they do a leakdown test? once the head is off you will know exactly what's going on and you should make the dealer prove to you how the tune could have caused this damage in cylinder #5 only, it sounds like they are just trying to get out of fixing it under warranty

Oh and what kind of aftermarket plug did you find, I mean from a performance standpoint I too would like to have a better plug than the one for the 350

isn't the e350 CGI a diesel engine? both the cls and e350 cgi have direct injection if i'm not mistaken so that will answer your question as to why they both use the same plugs.

Diesel engines don't use spark plugs. The CGI is a gasoline engine.

FWIW, spark plugs are chosen/designed to give optimal cylinder head temperatures. Using the same plug from one N/A engine vs. an F/I engine like the M157 isn't a problem, or would be in any way an "inferior" plug to use, as long as it is an appropriate heat range for the application.

Tuning the engine for significantly higher output, and the corresponding heat created, would tend to suggest moving to a one (maybe two?) step colder plug.

Everyone knows? You've been asked at least 5 times in this very thread, by people who obviously do not know, and you haven't answered.

Why would you turn off the CEL?

Also - The CEL went on at the same time that my car started to shake and misfire real bad so in this case the CEL did not get me there faster...it just confirmed what was obvious.
