Latest Renntech Tune

I know I am late to this party but I just got my car car back from VAC in Philly where they put the Renntech tune on my car, checked my plugs, and did some dyno pulls and all I can say is wow. The car drives like a whole different vehicle now. Spine crushing torque right out of the gates on hard throttle and sensory overload as the surroundings wiz by as if the car is about to leave orbit. Traction is not as bad as I would have thought but I definitely need to upsize the width on my rears soon and get rid of these horrible conti OEM tires. At easy throttle my car is still very usable as a normal daily driver although I am interested in my wife's view. More reactions to come over the next few days as I put some more miles on the car.

BTW, my pulls support Renntech's claims as to 20% trq and 15% hp gains.

Anyone who is considering a tune on a M157 in Philly should definitely schedule an appointment at VAC and get this tune. You won't be disappointed.

I have a Renntech tune as well and love it. I would say the traction is terrible though and can't wait to be done with these tires. Day to day driving is great IMO and when you need to punch it OMG....the pull actaully took the cheese off the pizza this evening bringing dinner home......not to mention the moonroof sliding back about 5 inches every time I gun it.

I loved this car without the tune but with it.......crazy...

Also - Did you get the ECO feature turned off as I heard Renntech can do that now through the tune. I was a little too early to the party and missed out.

Wow! Congrats! The 20% gain in tq you're quoting, is it estimated from a baseline with or without PP?

Measured baseline from stock pp tune. On a non pp car I think the gains would be higher obviously.

I got the Eco start delete option but the the Eco light still
Comes on in comfort mode. I am wondering if the fix is just to trick the ecu into thinking the parameters aren't right to turn off the engine at idle in which case I suppose the delete option is a true delete option and does not let the feature to continue to be used. I assumed the option just deleted the default Eco on setting in comfort mode. Will let you know after I try some stop and go slow driving on the way home today if my hunch is right.

Thats actually not true. The end result of a tuning a PP or non-PP car are identical....

Yeah I know. I said the gains would be higher on a non pp car because a non pp car has a lower baseline.

The gains would be more on non PP since the base values are less but yes the end result is the same--- for the most part.

PP vs. non-PP

Congrats on the tune. Pretty amazing gains. And so much easier than the days of adding an HKS EVC to my 300ZXTT (old school, baby)

Food for thought -

Years ago, MB flashed our 55 ECU's as part of a factory campaign. It was part of some other fairly mundane recall, but the result was that the ECU was updated in such a way that it could not be tuned for a long while. I never had a tune, so it did not affect me at all. But others who had a tune and needed a tune to make other mods (headers) work were screwed for a long while.

It is easy to say that it isn't worth spending the extra $$ on a PP car if you intend to tune anyway. But if MB launches another campaign like they did a few years back, I guess it is conceivable that non-PP cars will be "stuck" with 515 hp for a while until tuners can figure out how to tune the ECU's again.

So - I guess I would buy a PP car over non-PP, even if I was intending to tune it.

The absolute numbers aren't that impressive because the runs were on a particularly stingy Mustang dyno (the big manufacturer marketing #s come from dynojets). What is important is my relative before and after figures which support the 15% hp / 21% trq gains from my factory PP tune.

With that caveat, my stock #s were 416 whp, 487 wtrq. compared to post Renntech tune #s of 477 whp, 586 wtrq. I have the dyno sheet in hard copy, will try to scan and post later.

Good point and that is one reason I have a pp car. If i ever go to sell and the dealer needs to reflash I think the pp cars will sell better and convey better resale value.
