Bored- Went Even Darker And Got an F12 M6-Pics And Dynos Inside

Not a bimmer site but....... I know you guys know Im a benz and bimmer fan.

Here is my post from the M5post.com:

Yes, I got an M6 too. Why? Maybe I was bored, maybe I enjoy the S63tu and its potential very much. I drove it at a local dealer a few weeks back off a whim and it was very impressive. I am keeping the f10 right now as they serve two purposes; a four door sedan than can haul 5 and a sleek sexy coupe that just looks really good.

In short I found it to handle differently than the M5. The chassis feel, response in short turns and high speed bends was awesome. In a straightline, handling was very similar as both suspensions share a similar set up. But the car just inspired more confidence at speed. Understeer is less prevalent in the M6- turn in feels easier as well. It in no ways is a gtr or even a porsche turbo handling wise but the car is great. Maybe it was the seats with the side bolsters that made it feel like it handles better than my M5 :lol:The car also sounds louder than my M5 did prior to my E-Race install. Im not sure why or was the active sound turned up Since I have the Eisenmann Race on the 5 Im gonna take a shot with Meisterschaft on this car. Install is slated for Friday and then another dyno to see if there are any real gains.

The interior is really great- the seats are amazing, carbon fiber all over the place, and the 3 spoke steering wheel is a nice change from the M5. I think its just a more luxurious feel overall and it should be given its price tag. I got a smoking deal so I pulled the trigger.

The car did feel slightly faster via the butt dyno vs my M5 but I wanted to make sure so I went to go see Tom and Steve and the guys at EAS- my local So Cal BMW shop to dyno it and make some comparos. Thanks again to all the EAS peeps including Anthony who always takes great phots without any planning. I have attached pics of the car and the dyno sheets of the M5 (done last December). I know they were done in different conditions but the temps were relatively close and so are the numbers. The slightly lower weight and chassis set up gives the M6 the advantage IMHO handlingwise and in speed. Whats ironic is I found this Car and Driver comparo after I got the 6:

Im in no way saying that the 6 is better than the 5- hell I have both and if I could only have one Id have the 5. They serve two different purposes and while they have the same engine, there are differences outside of that. Maybe not enough for most but enough for me. I like to waste money and switch cars alot so this was a necessary taste test YMMV.

Some minor cosmetics done on the M6:

Wrapped front grill- the slats are black just the rims needed wrapping
Wrapped rear trunk spoiler
Wrapped side grills
Painted side and rear reflectors
Full coded with turn signals in the HUD, TPMS, DVD, Cameras in Motion, amber lights turned off, warnings removed, etc

Wheels are ordered (HRE's), black badges are here, and Im waiting on springs- no one has them yet for the M6 :mad0259:

Love the LED's on the M6--- coding removed the ambers too:

Here is the M6 dyno uncorrected with all the runs:

M5 dyno that was done in December... this is the uncorrected sheet.

Please note I do not and did not have a center pipe:

And then I installed the Meisterschaft Exhaust and redid the dyno-here is that post:

I recently dyno'd my M6 stock (02/04/13) and then got the Meisterschaft Super GT Racing exhaust (no valves, I like noise all the time) installed this past Friday. Here are the dyno chart overlays and again thanks to Tom and team at EAS for doing this. As most of you Orange County guys know they are the "go to" out here for all your needs BMW wise.

Now the conditions were different from Monday to Friday so I take these with some cautious review but the car did indeed feel better after the exhaust was installed. Friday was cooler by about 7 degrees and since it was different days things could occur but the operator and the dyno are the same and the strap down procedure was the same as well. Im glad I didnt lose any power and the Meisterschaft is similar in sound levels (noise volume) to the Eisenmann Race axle back I have on my F10 M5. The sounds are different though. The Meister has a deeper throatier sound while the ERace is more exotic and a slightly higher pitched tone. Both are great for different reasons. I like Meister for its appearance, the cans are polished and the under piping is all stainless up to the resonator. I like the Eisenmann for the actual tips; no center supporting stick in the middle of the exhaust tips; Im not sure why its there but I will be cutting that out this week. The Eisenmann seems to provide more sound at coast down speeds to stop too. Some may not like this but I do. Ill be happy to answer more questions if you have any:

These are standard correction graphs and the exhaust appears to have produced some power and tq:

Nice addition Vic...... I love the interior of the new M6. Did you get rid of the GTR?

Congrats.

Congrats on your purchase Vic. I teste drove the new M6 last week and was a little underwhelmed. This was always going to be a tough comparo as i am coming from supercharged AMGs but the torque just wasnt enough down low and i was very underwhelmed by the exhaust note at anything under 5000rpm. Cabin was beautiful though and certianly the next level above my 09 SL63. Car just felt too big.

By all means this is not a sports car but a very capable GT car it is. I can definitely see your points since I feel the same way when I get in my Black Series after a few drives behind the M6. The one thing I hope you did is set up the driving electronics correctly because if you didnt adjust them the car will react in a different manner. The shift modes, throttle modes, diff modes, steering modes should all be adjusted and they all have a preset button if you become an owner. I do appreciate that BMW allows so much control over the driving feel and their adjustments are clearly noticeable.

The exhaust is the first thing I fixed--- no doubt its light and not loud at all. I know you love loud cars For a stock car and it being a BMW Im actually very impressed with the flat tq curve as indicated in the dynos above. I have had 6 M's and 4 of them are very much about high rpm driving and heavy driver involvement.

Are you ever going to make a trip to Audi country, specifically the city of R8? Between the allowance my parents send me and the royalties I make off the shampoo empire I have created, I cant step it up to that level just yet. But I think it's time you get an R8 GT.

Pert, irony is bliss....I was actually looking at a V10R8 non GT but I couldnt wrap my arms around the SMG style tranny- very old and archaic (similar tranny to the previous M6 and M5). The car itself is incredible but I have found myself gravitating to more efficient, fast, non power robbing transmissions. My GTR, M3, Porsche, and both of these M's are DCT in nature. The MCT's in our Benzes is even more advanced than the SMG. Its the best thing that most people dont realize. And since the 2013 R8 will be out in April with a DCT I couldnt pull the trig.

Now I am intrigued by the RS7

Congrat Vic. Great looking M. Can't wait to see updated pics with new wheels.
Wow 560whp stock with just an exhaust just really shows how underrated the engine is.

Whatever you end up buying, I can say that I always appreciate the style in which you mod your rides. Simple and clean -- but always beastly.
