2014 CLS AMG 2017 GLS 450
Had my '14 CLS63 MCT updated...

Had a chance to drive the 2015, and as we all know the transmission
has been updated to rival a DCT. From all I've read, it was both a
software and hardware upgrade.

Never like the clunkiness of my 2014 shifting, so after getting to
know my AMG tech over the last few years I asked him about
transmission software updates for 2012-2014, and apparently
there were a few.

Just took it in for oil change, and did the service bulletin rear LED
and front bulkhead changes. He also kindly flashed the transmission
ECU with the "updated" settings.

It's been a week, and I swear the shifting is 75% better. Don't quite
get the downshift 'pops' with the '15 transmission, but upshifting seems
more fluid and solid, and it doesn't seem to search around for gears
anymore.

Anyone else try this? Is it just placebo effect? Maybe talk to your
dealership, give it a go, and weigh in....

Had my recall done a month ago. Only driven the car twice since I picked her up. Not sure if they did tranny update(s), but the first time I drove it I had something real strange happen. Under steady, low acceleration, the car bucked repeatedly, hanging in either 2nd or 3rd gear. Didn't happen again so I never looked into it. This thread reminds me that I forgot to see if my Nav in motion hack was overwritten by the new software update.

This is a very I tresting thread as I have been looking for a TCU upgrade for quite sometime. I didn't know that MB dropped a patch and I got onset of the previous owner already had this done. My car has the Renntech R1 package on it and the initial acceleration is still a problem even with 700 AWD HP. My CLS63 is a 2014 and I'm wondering if I get this done will it affect my current ECU mod? If all else fails I'm getting the sprint booster or pedal box. I'm hearing great things about those guys.

Hi,

I have updated mine and I can agree with you that shifting is roughly 75% better and there are no pops in the exhaust. It used to be more "rough" all-round, that's for sure. Now it is more smooth and yes, better.

What LED update are you talking about?

Just curious how did the 15 CLS MCT compare to your now updated 14 CLS?

The last 25% difference, im guessing is because of the difference in the hardware, while 75% of the difference is just in the software programming?

UPDATE dealership quoted me around $1000 for the update but before I do it I want to know if anyone thinks its worth it

the tcu can def use some work but if its gonna get rid of the backfire from downshifts not sure i want it

and the tcu isnt so bad right now that i would want to spend 1k to fix it unless it was going to make it a lot better than before so im trying to find out what other ppl think about the update

I am debating just doing new fluid & filter over a new update. Would rather not have to relearn the new update and/or any potential hiccups versus just having fresh fluid and filter to smoothen things up a bit.

wtf 1k for an update seems like robbery. Unless they are doing something on top of the update, that is super not worth it. 1k to press a button to initiate an update is ridiculous. Even the labor for a transmission adaptation would not cost this much.

I think the the price is a bit far fetched myself but this is how I see it. If we wanted Honda maintanence prices we should have gotten a Civic. When you purchase a Benz it's like joining the military.... you know exactly what you signed up for LOL!

I totally agree on dealer prices and its ok but 1k for an update is super expensive even for owning a benz. @amgboy916 you should get a quote from another dealership just to get a better idea on the pricing.

For what its worth I was having the same issues you are. I have a 14' cls63 and debated taking it in for the updates. I am out of warranty as well. I decided to do the trans service myself first and go from there. I was amazed by what a difference it made in the smoothness of the shifts!! Car shifts smooth and seamless now compared to jerky before. The trans service if done yourself is super easy and pretty cheap. Give it a try first and make sure and follow the correct fill instructions. Hope that helps!

thank you for reassuring me i'm not crazy I cant help but think these guys are always trying to pull a fast one on me, not all of them but the main service tech at least

I'm gonna get another quote before I make my decision but I def think a transmission service is what I'll go with

Got another quote from the next closest mercedes dealership

they quoted me $180

thats crazy compared to the $1000 the other mercedes dealership quoted me. I was so shocked i scheduled the appointment right away and I'm getting it done tomorrow. I'm very angry with the other dealership and I'm wondering if I can complain about them trying to rip me off and probably ripping countless other people off...

Maybe one dealer charging for an adaptation and one just doing SW update? I need to bring my car in and have the adaption done. The PO had the SW updated Jan 2017 and my car is jerky sometimes...
