Cls63 feels slow compared to e55, is that normal?
trying to buy a 2012 cls63 and test drive one last night private party. Best way to describe the experience is.... underwhelming? I drove my unmodified e55 to the guys house and was flooring it on the freeway, felt faster than the cls63 biturbo I test drive 10 minutes later... is this normal?
really disappointed in the car, 'maybe turbo engines just don't feel as fast? I also test drive a 6.3 e63 about a month ago and remember feeling unerwhelmed, and I know they are supposed to be faster than an e55.
at any rate, do you think there is something wrong with the cls63? Maybe the turbos aren't working or it's in limo mode or something? Honestly felt more like a c63 than a 600 hp monster biturbo

Only thing I could say is that there are a ton of small things that effect these cars and if not maintained or even driven hard they seem to get pretty docile. Being a 2012 could have factory plugs still, gummed up intake and sensors, plugged cats, intercooler pump out or just has adapted to a grandpas foot. The trans relearn does seem to bring back a bit of life with these cars. I do know my 12 CLS550 Tuned was much faster than a stock E55. I've raced a couple E55s in my current cls63s and there is no comparison. The e55 does have the PD Blower so definitely has instant torque but on the M157 we dont have much or any LAG. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the quick reply, The car in question was driven by an elderly lady so it may not have been driven hard at all, I will try the ecu reset and see if that works. Thanks!

Its the power delivery. A modded e55 "feels" faster because the instant torque hit from the screw blower. The turbos are more linear, but if its stock, it probably isn;t faster than a modded 55

I think against pp cls63 or cls63s even a modded 55 won't keep up.

Power delivery comes on different in e55 vs cls63... the cls63 is superior in performance just may not feel like it

No question, the tq hit on the biturbo is underwhelming until you get it tuned. I have a fully modded E55 and a bone stock one and even the stock one felt quicker from a stop and a roll (I said quicker, not faster). Once you get into triple digit speeds the the biturbo is faster than even my fully modded E55. With the biturbo tuned, the only place the modded 55 can out perform it is a standing launch. Anywhere else and the 63 walks away.

Well, again.. Modded 55 will out 60' a tt63. With 17" Hoosiers I pulled a 1.62-5 60'. Ive Never seen a AWD tt63 in the 1.6s. Would probably take until the 330' for a tt63 to catch. Back half would be all tt63.
I trapped as high as 129 with a fully modded 55. Turbo upgrade cars trap mid 130s. No chance

I was wondering more on a street tire setup, I don't think on this it will be as fast as a 4matic tt63 such as encountering one on the streets.

I used to get pretty consistent 1.72 60ft times in my 55 on Toyo T1R street tires and I haven't seen an awd biturbo do that yet. So even without drag radials the E55 still out launches the E63.

I will find out for sure tonight, my buddy has an ATS-V that would consistently beat my E55 on freeway pulls. Ill put the CLS63 up against it tonight and see which is faster.
Needless to say I will be mighty displeased if he beats me

Gotta beat on the CLS63 for a day or two and teach it how to drive under abuse! The ECU adapts to driving style as was mentioned above. There's also a procedure to reset the throttle adaptations, it's somewhere on the forums..

So how bad did your cls63 kill that Cadillac?

Sorry for the late update, did a few runs against my buddy's ATSV and I was faster (thank god).
first run I just mashed the pedal and we were neck and neck till about 100 mph then I started to walk away, stopped at around 120 and I was almost a car length ahead.
2nd and 3rd runs I downshifted into the appropriate gear first and that did the trick, started pulling away almost immediately and ended a bit over a car length ahead both times.
pretty damn pleased with the car, especially considering I haven't even tuned it yet.

First run started around 50 until 120, 2nd run was about the same, 3rd run was around 30-35 and that's the pull I won by the highest margin.
his atsv is bone stock and has a manual transmission, so my MCT was probably shifting faster. I have a slight edge on power but I also weigh 500 lbs more.
i do remember feeling pretty underwhelmed with the acceleration when I first got the CLS, watching motor trend dyno a stock 2017 at nearly 700 hp made me expect a monster.
unfortunately the 2012's without performance pack are severely under tuned and I don't want to tune mine u too the warranty is up
