Time for rotor/brake pad change?
Gotta dumb question: My car has started making braking squeaking noises for the past 3 days. Brakes feel as strong as ever. I'm guessing the pads are telling me they need to be changed?
Issue is I'm not sure when the rotors were changed last. My question is how do I know that I need to change my rotors as well. And how can I tell if it's front or rear pads +/- rotors or both that need replacing?
Attached are some photos of the front rotors/pads and rear rotors/pads.
If I need to change the pads +/- rotors, any suggestions on OEM vs aftermarket, brands, place to buy with a good deal (I feel like this question might feel like flogging a dead horse to some if it's been answered before). I have noticed the current RacingBrake group-buy thread. Looks like a good deal. Not sure about the look of the rotors though! I reckon drilled + slotted is the best looking (I know it's vain, but rotor appearance matters to me) so I'm apprehensive about buying those.

Hahahahahaha Plutoe.. i'll definitely take it easy.. you have put my mind at ease.. no clam digging option in Sydney though.. didn't realise there's a sensor for the pads! thanks mate!

What's your mileage? Your rotors look similar mine (1mm edge) and I'll be swapping them soon (couple of thousand miles). My mileage is 33,000.

What made you decide to swap them? Is there an indicator that says rotor too thin? A sensor? Measurement I can use? Or is it just gut feel? Coz these rotors ain't cheap.. and I've just blown aud$5500 on wheels and my tires are worn so that's an extra aud$2000 coming up.. so I'd rather not spend cash unless absolutely necessary.. i know there's 2 things you can't skimp on in a car though.. tyres and brakes so if I need to change I'll do it..
Car has 120000km on the clock.. mostly highway kms.. I bought it used.. 98000km at the time.. not sure if/when the rotors have been changed.. not sure how to tell.. no record in the logbook of rotor change.. hence my concerned post after 3 days of squeaking.. problem with Racing Brake rotors is the appearance.. i like the drilled+slotted rotors..

1] My service advisor at the local Mercedes-Benz dealership told me maximum 5,000Km.
2] They start looking worn (apart from the edge like you have, small cracks develop) and have never been replaced so I think it is time.
3] Pads have been changed 16,000Km ago.
There is a sensor so you can keep going. But since we have this group buy, I think you might want to buy your brakes now and have a piece of mind when it comes to replacing and just swap.
You are right that wheels + tires + brakes are something you should take extra care of.
You can have your brakes cleaned but the squeaking can appear again.
I don't care about appearance, on top of that, drilled rotors are not better than non-drilled (I read it might be even worse). Racing Brakes should have better cooling so you don't need holes.

Your brake pads are thicc!!! But seriously you still have a long way to go before needing a brake pad change, its possible there is just some debris between the rotor and brake pad creating the noise. Rotors on the other hand would need to be measured for thickness, there are limits but at this time I don't remember what they are. Rotors can last a very long time, Usually I will change my rotors on the second set of pads but I measure them to make sure it is still safe.

Took car to mechanic 2 days ago to get the weistec exhaust installed and car retuned. They inspected all the brakes. All gone. rotors and pads. So the postal service better hurry up!
