2012 CLS 63 Mis Fire- Cam Sensors

T30 and comes right off

Loaded with oil, Yuk

Oil from inside the plug, Yuk!

Clean these plugs off very well!

This is the part number you need!

Get good electrical plug cleaner

You need 4 of these, this part number! Time will tell if these are manufactured better than the o es taken out.

DO NOT BUY or get these sold to you, DEMAND part number 276 905 1000.
If you have a 2012-2013 CLS 63 AMG read this and know this, your 4 Cam sensors need changed if you have not changed them yet. My car is verywell maintained never tracked never abused and has 55,000 Miles. Last week the CEL, check engine light came on as the car shuttered shook and had no power. Code says misfire 1,5,7,8,,,,, no sweat spark plugs are original let’s change them. Sweet ,problem fixed. Right? Wrong.
The next night same thing happens. CEL comes on;reader says same misfire.
Side note while changing my plugs earlier, my buddy says to me HOW did you get oil back here? I see no leaks or anything..... we are both stumped. Some of you experienced guys already know where this is going! Back here is irrelevant in location but always ominous in nature, oil where it shouldn’t be!
Read ,research ,read meet 6speeddave here on this forum and BAM he puts me on it; after 3-4 years these cam sensors leak and oil gets everywhere and causes all kinds of issues!
If you have the original Cam Sensors I. Your car change them now the OLD part number is 276 153 0028 The NEW part number is 276 905 1000.
MAKE SURE you check the new part number on the sensor stem MB dealer actually sold me 1 sensor marked as the new 276 905 1000 number while it was # 276 153 0028—. I am taking it back tomorrow to swap and finish the job.

Here is a question did MB enhance this sensor? Does the new part number mean it is improved and will not leak? Time of course will tell. Maybe it’s just a 3 year 30-40k change out!
About 50 bucks a piece and super easy change out. I have several pics to post.If you have any questions send me a PM call me whatever I can do to help you let me know.
The main take away is this: change these Cam censors before they cause you BIG problems. Make checking them a part of your annual inspection?Bi annually? Something!

So, about how long a job is this? Also, can you point out the locations.. My local Mechanic who I actually trust with all my vehicles and work, just quoted me $750 for the job. Thinking about doing it myself.

That is a ripoff! Takes 10 minutes to change all 4, TOPS. 1/10 easy. Sensors can be had online for $40-50 a sensor but they can take a few weeks to get in from Germany if not stocked.

Tod, I am a novice mechanic, 6speeddave may be slightly unrealistic on the 10 minute time frame. I would say 15 minutes! Seriously I will pm you my cell number call me, I can walk you through the process in under 30 minutes

750 dollar Quote? Wow Seriously? I understand a man has to make a living...........If it takes a professional mechanic more than 15 minutes to do this job somethings is wrong with his skill set. Not trying to bust his or her chops but just saying......

Changing your engine air filters is the process to have access to these 4 sensors, Simple! After removing cover, no tools required, it’s 4 T30 screws (1 screw each ) the sensors snap in the electrical plug so a very very small screw driver is needed to release the plug.

Get your 4 sensors, Qualty Electrical parts cleaner, A tiny screw driver ( think ear piece screw replacement on someones glasses,) T30 bit with a small 1/4 inch drive socket, call me and let’s get them replaced and save you 500 bucks. The 4 sensors from MB on Montgomery Road in Cin Ohio were 49.99 a piece and delivered to the shop in a day.

DO NOT PAY someone 500 dollars labor for this Tod. That’s crazy man Simply crazy.

How does the oil work itself up to the ECU connections on top of the engine?

Hi OP, can you describe how you arrived at this point? Was the car tuned? Tracked? Any reason this happened? Just wondering what to be on the lookout for. Many thanx!

I checked my sensors last weekend and 3 of the 4 are leaking. cleaned the old connectors out at that time and ordered 4 new ones. they arrived today. When replacing I found the old connectors already had oil in them again (since the cleaning from this past weekend). Car is 2012 with 39k miles.

Once you know where the senors are located, they are easy to change. 15-20 min job max.

Did you install the split cooling on your car or did it come factory?! Never seen a 2012 with that, they started in 13.

Motor is stock and i’m orig owner. Don’t know anything about the split cooling and years. I do know the car was a little bit of a unicorn as it came with the carbon fiber engine cover and it’s not a p30 performance package. I don’t think that cf cover is supposed to be there then?

The way I understood it, yes. When I ordered mine I was under the impression P30 would come with the CF engine cover; and it did. Not so with non P30 at that time.

Thanks Rosco, That's some very useful information right there. I think Ill have to invest in buying 4 cam sensors and some performance spark plugs before modding my car. Afterall, What good is a good looking modded car if the engine is dying? I'll try to get that done by the summer, If I have any questions I'll PM you!

Hey ROSCO44 and CLS63W218 thanks for the great info and diagram pics. This thread is super important to us M157 people! Did you guys need to unplug the battery before unplugging any sensors or ME harness?

why can’t you fix it yourself. What quote did you get for the work? I bought mine at a dealer. Also my car has been running great no issues

I wouldn't have known where to begin......and plus I JUST was reminded of this thread because I started one with the problem you mentioned. I don't recall the exact quote but it was high......it did not reach the ECU and I was told there wasn't that much oil in the lines......
