my2009 CHRONO FUNCTION

don't remember exactly if the Chronometer function within the combined instrument of the tachometer is standard for new CLS63 or it is an option ?

.. just wondering how to get it
there should be compatibility issues if swapping a new combined instrument

The Racetimer is standard on CLS63. If I remember correctly, it is in the AMG screen that shows the gear selection. On the gear selection screen, just hit the arrow button on your steering wheel and you will scroll through the oil temp, volt meter, L1 and L2 racetimer.

Thanks .. I know how it works
just wondering about the possibility of having this function in my CLS55 cluster
... will there be compatibility issues if replacing the new 63 cluster into my 55cluster

Isn't that function is just a simple timer? So if other functions work with the cluster swap onto the 55, then the timer should work also?

great ! ..as usual my dealership says it is not compatible , but I suspected it can be indeed
.. and works also the gear shift warning ?

but I don't want to change the front instrument as you did. only the back of it !

so, how much is the cost of the instrument only, without work ?

sorry, afaik mbenz is located in Holland ... means you went there?

ps: I'll read your thread ..

you know.. MB always connect something to control modules .. and 55' modules are different from 63'
.. especially concerning the gear shift warning function that could help when using the M mode. sure, if it warns 1k rpm in advance, it is useless

I don't drive my car in Manual mode often so I can't comment on the gear shift warning. However, I do believe it should work. The CLS63 cluster that was installed in my car was brand new and was programmed to work with my W211 E55 from the beginning. It was not a used one that was reprogrammed. That would not work I believe.

For cost, send an e-mail to MBenzNL. He is indeed from the Netherlands, but he makes frequent trips to California. That is why I have been able to mod my car so extensively.

even Cali is not so close too me ...

don't let me wait till monday.. give me a price idea for the cluster part !

cant get the programming issue: when you buy new it should be in any case already programmed to work on a 63..

is that CLK DTM by any chance ?
like the idea of speed and RPM in one. This the normal RPM circle is used for somthing else no?

yes, as per the simbol, seems used for engine oil temp and the left one for coolant temp .. but keeps also the standard water temp gauge to the right ..don' t understand what for ( except the left coolant temp is ... IC coolant !)

as for me, I'd like to swap the central instrument only
.. I m looking at it ..

Is that CLK63 cluster even possible though for the CLS? When MBenzNL installed mine, he needed to use a brand new cluster since it had to be programmed from the beginning. He said he couldn't do this with a used cluster.

used clusters cannot be installed in another car then that it came from as that will not display a mileage reading (it will just show some dashes) and cannot be programmed to adapt the mileage from the car either - so it has to be used.

Coding a 63 cluster into a 55 might be too tricky for most dealerships...so if the dealer sais it cannot be done then they probably meant to say that THEY cannot do it.

The gear shift warning in manual gear does not work - that requires a different TCU.

greetingz,

greetingz,

thanks, good info
but I heard of the possibility to modify the mileage ..don't remember exactly.

do you know if is it possible to replace the back of the center intrument only, so as to keep my stock 55 exterior look ?

... can you re-program the Tempomat reading so as to show, for example when is S-mode - the RPMs level as in DTM ?
