CLS COMPARISON
What exactly is the difference between 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010 CLS models? What exact changes did they make?
Also what exactly is the difference between 2006-2010 CLS AMG models?

Refer to the ordering guides here:

The only major changes were the engines and brakes in the 2007 and on models, and then the facelift and the new Comand system in the '09 and on models.

They got rid of the SBC system when 550 was introduced..They reverted back to the older system of brakes..which supposedly has lesser probs. than the electronic SBC system..do a search on it through this forum. You'll get a lot of hits.

So your cls 500 has the SBC system? I did a search on it and read a few threads but im still not too sure what exactly it does for the US CLS models...

yup my 500 has it. Not sure if the AMG models had that system though. All i know is there was a recall with the system(for my E class maybe for cls too) and it supposedly didn't brake as good as the old mechanical system. Also, because of the recall..the sbc system on the benz's got associated with the word "crap"..lol. But in general just like most other cars, the newer the model year..the better.

Are you 100% positive... www.mybenzguy.com shows the 2006 CLS55 AMG uses normal brakes in ordering guide, only the 2006 CLS500 says sensotronic brakes... Well if your right I don't really want a CLS55 anymore, I'd rather pick up a 2007 CLS550 both in my price range.

Not that horrible . They were fine on my E320 after a recall fix(mercedes paid the $1200 something to get it fixed). I actually never had brake problems, the sbc system was causing other electronically issues on my vehicle. But I also, got them on my CLS500. So the CLS550 because of the updates is of course better than the CLS500. But CLS55 would trump those too. Performance wise(Especially if you are into performance modding) I would even say the CLS55 is better than the CLS63. Sounds strange but after a little technical research you will understand the 55's engine was a beast.

I've got a CLS55 030 , with what Jeremy Clarkson described as the same braking system as on the McClaren SLR's.
It's a big problem. When you hammer the brakes in an emergency, you damn near go through the windshield they work so well.
If you wear a toupee (I don't )... you'd better wear it with super glue.
These brakes rock. I don't know what the complaints were other than some fools that didn't like that they didn't work like their crappy ole conventional brakes.
I'll admit they take a minor adjustment to get used to the sensitivity and power ... so if you're retarded and can't make minor adjustments ... stay away.

I've taken my 55 out to streets of willow (racetrack not dragstrip) and while it was hard pushing that pig around the track, the brakes did a wonderful job. even after the "warning brakes are overheated" indicator came on.
You're focusing too much on a little potential problem. 8 piston brembo calipers stock...ai'nt too shabby. new brembo 6's are better. heard the alcon/brabus 6's were pretty much the same as the stock 8's if you wanted to swap them out.

Hi,
New to the forum, and new owner. I've just purchased a 2006 CLS63 AMG, 128,000km, seems that when ordering parts etc the 2006 model doesn't show and that the first realise was 2007, is there any difference between a 2006 model (June) and later C219 models?
