07 CLS63 FRUSTRATION
Hello Board Members,
I've basically been sitting back reading all the posts before finally going out and buying a CLS63. This Forum and it's members are by far the best around. I finally went out and got a 07 CLS63 with 48k miles that I saw sitting in the BMW dealership by my house. I take my X5 down and trade it in. I test drive the car and know exactly what everyone means. I've barely put 1,800 miles on the car and one night I smell oil as I'm driving the car. Engine light goes on and I drive a little more, engine is losing power and torque and starting to sound like it will stall.I pull over and call a tow truck because I'm not taking any chances on this beast.
MB Roadside takes it to a MB dealer the next day. I Call BMW manager but no calls back. I have no warranty on the car so ask the MB dealer to look at it.
MB: $396 toi look at it
Me: FINE....
MB: The oil cap must of been loose and the pressure made the oil come out and its all under the under carraige...
Me: ???? REALLY???? How did that happen, I never did anything after I bought the car....
MB: Well maybe BMW doesn't know how to put a cap on.....
Me:jeez.
MB:Well we're not sure need more diagnostics 6 more hours they say...
Me: NO Call back from BMW yet after another message....OK......do it
MB:4 days later MB calls me back.....can't really find a leak...car is fine....
Me:..really? The car felt like it lost power and why would the oil just pop like that?
MB: Well let me have the head tech look at it again and take up the RPMs
Me:OK
MB: 4 days later...You ready for this??...
Me: Uh ...what?
MB: Needs about $10k in work...
Me: Huh?
MB: Listen you bought an AMG...what did you expect.
Me: Ran to BMW and with work order invoice of $10k (ATTACHED HERE) and they said that they have an MB Dealership - 45 minutes away...why didn't you just send it there...(WTF...LIke I had any idea )
Run to MB Dealer 1 tow the 63 to MB Dealer 2. Give them the invoice.
MB2: We'll call you tomorrow
Me: Yea yea....
MB2: 6 days later....we ran the same diagnostics...we found no leak.
Me: Well that's awesome, I'll come right down
Get there and ask them to take it out for a hard test run to make sure at high RPM there isn't any problems with power.
MB2: We weren't told of any problems like that.
Me:Can you test it please?
MB2: Lead Tech comes out and rips car for 10 minutes.
Me: Does it feel sick?
MB2: Yea I think I know what you mean, there's a humm..its the motor arms they need to be replaced
Me: ? Are you covering that?
MB2:Well it's a 6 hour job and parts are 300 total run you like $1k
Me: I just bought it from you guys!!
MB2: Let me check with my manager. Ok since you bought it from out BMW store we can do it for $300. YOu're ok to drive the car home. We didn't clean it though.
Me: I'll take it home and bring it back next week for the repair you can clean it then.
MB2: Call you when parts are in
Me: Jump in car....and notice car is reving at 2k rpm in park...hmmm....Hey does this sound right?
MB2:Yea just let it warm up.
Me: Bounce out head home - 20 minutes into ride Check Engine light is on again. Pull over, no oil smell or anything but notice that either in Park or Neutral the car revs at 2k. Once I throw it into any gear it goes down to 1k (normal). The problem is there is a hard shift up and down into gears. I call service dept and everyone will call you back. No call back, department is now closed an hour later. Take car home and it's sitting in my garage. Oil temp was as high as 117 just driving normal home in traffic......
I will obviously call service tomorrow and tell them about it. I'm so heated right now and I'm not sure what to do other than go to the gang I trust more than anyone else.

sabotaged at the BMW dealership! no warranty.... hmm.
I hope it all works out.
Hate to say it but is the reason you should always get CPO if you're gonna get pre-owned, you never know how the previous owners treated it.

I had issues like that when I had a 6 series, the best thing is to go to the top and complain and bug them until u get what you need. How long ago did you buy the car? If it's under 30 days, I think there is law where the seller either fixes the problem or return your money back. Good luck!

yea no doubt I'm going to be a d*ck now to the managers at both the places. Wish it didn't have to be this way. I have owned it for about 2 months so it falls on the line of the dealer warranty 60 days / 2000 miles. They kept saying I had a power train warranty still but not sure how long that is good for? I'm more scared that there is something wrong with the transmission than anything else.

That's really sad man. My dealership would have looked at it for free. Hope it all works out for you quickly.

CLS 63 problems
I'm Really sorry that happened and I hope they can fixed car correctly without costly u your life savings. It's too bad that their still rip-off dishonest dealers around. If u can stick it to them do it . You bought that car in good faith and they should deal with u in good faith.. Badm

I read the service receipt you attached..maybe it's a misprint, but the model reads CLS500. You have a CLS63 AMG.. lack of detail on the part of the dealership.. problem number one!

Agreed - every time I call and tell them I have the CLS63 they can't find me. It has been a rather frustrating situation. I am trying to wonder why the car is reving at 2,000 RPM in neutral and in Park. Once I drop the car into gear it drops to a more normal 1,000 RPM. I called MB2 today since they agreed to replace the engine mounts next week and they said they will look at it once I bring it in.

Good luck with repairs.. MB2 should cover the costs for the repairs in good faith as their sister dealer sold you the car, and on the receipt is will say all parts/labor warrantied for 12 months/12,000 so at least you can rest assured if the issue persists, it will not come from your pocket..

That sounds horrible.
2007 model with 48k miles...is this still under original manufacturer warranty?
If so, shouldn't this all be completely covered?

Not sure what the original warranty is on the car. Does anyone know? I bought it from a BMW dealership. They gave me a 2 month or 2k mile warranty which im trying to get them to honor

Dude, you have a manufacturers warranty on ANY Benz that is at or under 50K miles or 4 years, whichever happens first. You should not be paying for anything if the warranty is in effect. The warranty expiration should be on your service invoices, or call MBUSA to get the warranty service dates and details.

I looked over your invoice again, and there are things that are red flags. One already was noted, you have the wrong car a CLS500. Big problem, When was your car made? (You can see this on the sticker inside the drivers door.)
Something is definitely not right here.
Never-mind... on the warranty, I see the expiration date, I had to flip your PDF around. LOL.

Have you run the VIN with a MB dealership? They should be able to give you the complete service records on the car if it was serviced at the dealer. Because it only recently came off warranty, I would bet it was serviced at a dealer.
The service records may give you some insight into past problems that point the finger to your current trouble.
Also, I would highly recommend getting yourself an aftermarket warranty ASAP. This problem will go away someday, but I get the feeling others will be right around the corner.

OK so they tell me the car was delivered in September of 2006 making it out of warranty. The Service person tells me they changed the motor mounts however that didn't seem to fix the high revs on the car in park and neutral. They are having a "Foreman" look it over today. I spoke to another MB tech that I randomly bumped into who indicated I better get the car certified if I can and get a warranty on it. I think they were retailing for upwards of $7,000 but didn't look any deeper until I knew more about this 'current' issue.

The Service advisory noted 'some' maintenance on the car in the past. He recommended a handful of things from brake flush, new gas filter, new s plugs, service a, something with the brakes themselves totally about $2800. He said that it was hard to tell what might of been done that wasnt recorded due to some dealerships not reporting certain things (not sure what to believe).

jkay - engine mounts has nothing to do with the car high reving in park or neutral. It sounds like a vaccum leak to me. I will get a 3rd or 4th opinion and tell them to look into possible leaks before at the TB, intake, any loose hoses, etc. Another possibility is the TB wires or positioning sensors.
Start with the basic stuff and go from there.

Advisor left a message stating that they found an "intake leak." Said they would be handling it for me but I didn't get a chance to talk to the guy since they left a voicemail. I will keep you guys updated and thanks again for the posts and kind help.

sorry for the fiasco you are having w/the new CLS63 AMG. Hope all is done in good will and no more problems in the future. You may want to check out aftermarket warranties such as Fidelity or Easycare.
