Hardwire radar

Hey guys. I am trying to hardwire my radar to my car. Are there any fuse boxes or wires in the passenger cabin I can tap into, for power? Thanks in advance! I am trying to avoid having to run the wire all the way to the fuse box in the trunk!

The sunroof would be the clear choice if you ask me. I haven't hardwired my radar to the CLS63, but I did to my 525 and Z4 with relative ease. I'll give it a shot within the next 2-3 weeks and post a DIY if I'm able to set it up right.

Thanks for the fast response, man. I am gonna try this in the next few hours. I am trying to figure out how the sunroof is wired; location the wires are running.

Any other input?

I got it figured out. I tapped into the cigarette lighter fuse (engine bay, driver's side firewall), which is #54. I grounded it a bolt where other wires are grounded to (engine bay). I routed the wires back into the cabin, ran them up the A-pillar and underneath the headliner. Here is an extremely bad picture of the result. I'm very happy with it. No more unsightly coiled wires running from my windshield, across my climate control and navigation screen to my cigarette lighter!

Very cool! Nice work! I forgot how long the direct wire cord for the 8500 is. Glad you got it sorted out.

Take it to the next level...

You guys should try a much cleaner look and go with the Passport 9500ci. For $1,900 installed you get a radar/laser detector, no wires to deal with, laser blocking, and traffic cam warnings you can update monthly. Not to mention, close the ash tray and no one knows the detector is even there. The GPS feature saves frequent interference so the detector only goes off when there's police running speed tracking equipment.

I highly recommend it!

Thanks man! It was super easy. I made the Hardwire cord out of some black telephone wire I had in the drawer. It was like 12 foot in length, but I cut it up about 5 ft I think.

That's a lot of money! My 9500xi has those features as well, minus the exposed radar and laser blocking. If you have the means, the 9500ci looks like a great setup to have!

Nice set up.
Mine is not installed but after seeing your set up it will be.
Which laser blocker did you use?

Thanks!

The 9500ci comes with a laser blocker/diffuser. Don't forget to turn it on! Apparently, my install guys were "not allowed" to turn it on so I had to do it manually (simple thing to do, but you have to know that it comes preset in the "off" position).
