New here any help on CLS55 amg purchase would be appreciated.

I am thinking about purchasing a CLS55 AMG and am wondering if the extended warranty is worth the 3-4 thousand dollars. I figured you the owners or mechanics would be the ones to ask. Are there a lot of problems with these cars? Any help is greatly appreciated.

They start having issues around 70,000 miles. Extended warranty is only worth it if you do not have a dependable mechanic or shop to take it to. Take this risk of not buying the extended warranty it if you have a good mechanic/shop you can depend on.

So try to buy one with lowest miles possible.

2006 would be the best year.

Look for one with the P30 Package.

I did extended warranty and it was a waste. Only $600 dollars covered and it excludes high ticket items like airmatic suspension ( which can be a PIA ). So save that money for upgrades repairs. I've replaced the A-Arms due to bushing wear and the crankshaft position sensor went out that was it.

I'm a 2006 CLS AMG with the P30 as well.

BTW it's a great car and I popped in the fully integrated 2009-2011 Comand center and it gives all of the navigation/traffic/sat/blue tooth/SD/DVD and backup camera that was missing in 2006. It's a tricky process and takes some great people but so worth it. Also added the Piano Black interior trim which makes the car look awesome.

Call Jerry from Eurocharged or other tuners and get the upgraded Heat Exchanger and Pump that goes along way to getting heat out of the charger saving your engine.

I am trying to find one with low miles which is not the easiest thing to find. What exactly is the P30 package? I was thinking about a vette before but this car really caught my attention.

In my personal opinion, buy the extended warranty. Make sure you read the agreement carefully. Before I signed I asked for the complete disclosure of the contract, not the simplified one the dealer will give to you along with some nicely-colored pamphlet.

I paid about $4k for mine and it has paid for itself in less than 7 months with only ONE job (transmission valve body). I have an 08 CLS 550 that I bought with 40k miles. I would imagine that similar repairs on a CLS55 would be even more expensive.

As an owner of a 2006 CLS55, I would definitely buy the extended warranty. In fact, I buy an extended warranty on every Mercedes I have ever owned, except for the first one I bought back in 1999. I learned the hard way on that one! Actually my CLS55 is at the dealer right now for an issue with the airmatic suspension. The driver's side front suspension has dropped and I'm sure it would be expensive to fix without a warranty. The car has 62K on the odometer. I hope you find this helpful, and I hope you buy a warranty!

will companies still be willing to warranty a car back from 2006 anymore? I'm looking around to get into a 55 next summer worried that they'll be too old

Brian which company did you use for extended warranty? Suspension was specifically exluded and the AIRMATIC will definetly go out. Has on every Benz I've had.

rkeller411, could you tell us what was involved in putting in the 2009 Comand and how much the whole process cost?

How is the history of the car?, CARFAX?, start there.

If it's a certified dealer used car, $3000 warranty for the first year is a bit steep, unless you were to completely overhaul the engine (doubtful), our transmissions are rock solid, and if you think of modding the car, the warranty is useless either way.

I would say why waste your money?, if the warranty was more like $2000 then sure..., but these cars are pretty reliable, and dealers use fear to make you get warranties, but few parts cost $3000 that won't involve a crash, anything else you can pretty much find used somewhere.

Take the car to a shop where they can thoroughly examine it's electronic condition and suspension, you'll be fine.

Comand Install

To update the Comand here is the process prices may vary and the hard part is to find an installer capable of doing it. If you are in Orange County PM me and I can help.

Overall I paid about $3500 to install Backup Camera, Comand Unit, GPS Upgrade, Bluetooth including parts.

Get the warranty if you don't have a good indie mechanic nearby or k ow of any within a radius. Also, I wouldn't make looking for a P30 package a priority. You literally gain minimal vs from a regular CLS55. Only thing the P30 package really has going for it thats even worth mentioning is different brakes which cost way more to fix/replace given the limited support for it. Plus the price tag on fixing P30 brakes/rotors comes with a premium price tag. Regular CLS55 brakes have a Better selection to choose from in terms of brake pads and rotors and you'll save more in your pocket.

The performance package for the W219 isn't how it is with the new W218. The W218's "P" package is a true performance package where you actually gain horsepower and other important factors that matter. As for the W219 "P" package, the only thing you gain thats worth mentioning is different brakes, a suede steering wheel, and different wheels. You gain zero extra horsepower and look 99.9% identical interior and exterior so I'd save that extra coin and just find a regular CLS55 without P30.

Yowzers! For that price, why didnt you opt for an aftermarket head unit? Bigger screen, way better GPS, Pandora radio, more advanced electronically, easy to update, etc.

This is the route I intend on going but I'm still trying to debate if I have the ***** to try the install myself.

didnt the W219 P030 come with a different, supposedly better, LSD? Overall I agree with your assessment though.

The warranty company for my 2006 CLS55 is called United Auto Care. It does cover suspension because I just had it in for service last week. I bought the car at a Mercedes Benz dealer (Chandler Mercedes Benz) last December. They replaced the right front strut, which cost $1,277.00. The deductible was $50.

actually not true
the wheels alone will cost u a pretty penny as they only come on the cls55 030 package, they may look like the 65 ones, but the are wider 10 at the back, you also get LSD, but yes bigger brakes are a pain to replace
steering wheel is nice...also think car sits lower with 030 package

I think I'm going to get the extended warranty through my credit union. It's through Route 66 seems pretty good. Anyone ever dealt with this company? I just need to find the right car now.

Yeah don't do it. They cap it off at $3000 in repairs so if your tranny is shot, you will need to pay the difference of at least $2000. This is what my CU said on Rt. 66 Warranty.

My car has warranty through Pinnacle but have yet to use it for anything.
