Ill be removing all the factory sat nag/bluetooth/amp/speakers etc etc and starting fresh.

I wont be using a headunit in my case, ill actually use an iPad mini! This will bluetooth stream its signal into a Mosconi 6to8 processor which will in turn do my EQing, Level control, time alignment and any phase shifting, active crossover points, and send the signal onto my Mosconi amps. Upfront will be a 2 or 3 way active set of Gladen components. In the back, I am hoping I can get a pair of Ascendant Audio Havoc 18s to run IB firing into/through the ski hatch area.

Everything will be behind panels in the boot to hide amps when not on show, and then when I want, remove necessary panels to show off amps, processor and my hydraulics setup!

Should make for fun times!!
No problem. Sounds like a great plan. Post pics when you finish it

Very easy to do. I gave a brief description of the process in page 1. You need to buy an aftermarket installation kit for the E class. It works for the CLS but they only listed it for E class.
I am not sure if there is a way to connect the aftermarket stereo to the OEM amp and speakers. I simply added my own amps, ran RCA's from new stereo to the rear of the car, then spliced into speaker wires and connected them to amps. And that's it. I'm sure you can find a shop in your area that has done a few and know what they are doing

Did you have to modify dash for the new Alpine to fit?

There is a module available to enable steering wheel functions with aftermarket stereo, but I did not connect it with mine.

Not for a regular 7" double din unit, but my friend who is an installer in NY helped me modify the dash and kit for this new 8" head unit to fit. Alpine mentions on the site that this new 8" unit requires custom installation on most vehicles.
