K-GO shift KNOB repair and mod
as it was some time that my K-GO worked erratically, I finally decided to keep on it .
first thing :
- removed the gear lever trim panel
- removed the knob from the gear lever (just PULL it up. NEVER, EVER TWIST IT !!)
Tried to clean and to spray some contact cleaner in the two holes on the lever and trie dalso to flush the spray into the switch buttton..
Looking through the knob from its bottom it looked like the two corresponding contacting wires were in place and OK.
So reinstalled the knob and ... still not working
like probably many of you guys, I have the K-GO knob made of leather + Alcantara on the front side.
As I had an original carbon knob sitting somewhere I wanted to install it but didn't want to loose my alcantara detail.
what a problem ..
so decided to have the front carbon part put in place AND to have the leather part re-made in Alcantara... (my saddler guy already did for me great things )
Now: REMOVAL of the KNOB:
you have to remove the stopper on bottom of knob that you see here:

now, after having removed the K**** ,
you have to separate the two parts it is made of.
you get this:

now, take the knob at hand and look at it: you'll see 2 hooks
- they are circled in red in this picture

you have to push them to free the K-GO button assembly. It will pop up.
the picture above shows the button assy already removed.
it also shows the knob already undressed ...
my guy told me there's alot of hi-tech there: that clear cover is Teflon.. we discovered it because when trying to glue the Alcantara it did not attach..
He said that the original leather had been glued by means of high-frequency tech.gy.
(that is good because, having not being glued I can reinstall it back onto the knob if I will want to ..)
Second problem, Alcantara is much less elastic than leather, so the first tentative did not work.
he decide dthen to cut a new piece of Alcantara and sew it in front.
while he worked on that I kept watchin the button assy:
its wires were indeed twisted and shorted !! ... that's why it did not work anymore !

at this point, just try separate them a little so as to avoid contact, but leave them there. DO NOT TURN THEM nor TRY TO STRAIGHTEN THEM.
otherwise they WILL BREAK.
you'll have to repair/replace wires or replace the switch assy.
.. ask me how I know and I can take a pic of my broken wires for you ..
now, back to my mod: here's how it compares ..
hope you'll like it

sorry for the poor quality of the pic ..it was really late when I put everything back in place
but think my alcantara knob now matches quite nicely with my special full Alcantara interior trims
.. and also its other half side in carbon matches accordingly with my carbon interior.

thanks,
already reinstalled so do not have the p/n .. but it should not be so diffcult to find .
if anybody needs, I have a brand new original K-GO carbon+leather knob for sale (Canada version I think , it's the one with a computer like symbol on the button, instead of the writing "Start/Stop).

in principle, you just have to PULL IT
BUT, as the leather cover is attached to it, you need first to pull up the wood panel and loosen the leather cover from bottom .
Just read. Post #1 is all about it.
