CLK350 Coupe
They Don't have same number:
W220 S500: 722.633 and 722.635
W219 CLS55 : 722.643
Also bear in mind that the S500 produces 339 ft·lbf of torque and he CLS55 produces 516 ft·lb of torque.
The one won't fit the other because they are different in shape, dimension and the S500 tranny won't be able to handle the CLS55 engine torque.
Here is the difference in picture:

With respect both transmissions share the same 5 speed gearing, clutches and torque converter. Properly maintained Both are bullet proof and the 5 speed is used in the CLS 55 even thought the non AMG version use the 7 speed because the 7 speed can't handle the torque generated by the AMG. 722.6 is the series the rest deal with the specific units but all can be made to interchange with eachother with very minor modification. Good luck.
