2005 MB CL55
Transmission Change

I have a 2005 CL55 and wondered if the MB 7-speed transmission would fit and function in the car in lieu of the current 5-speed? I'm also thinking of installing an underdrive pulley for added hp.

Nope and you would be giving your self a huge costly problem! FYI you need to do loads of reading before thinking of the viability of such projects. Spend more time with the family!

The 722.6 5 speed transmission is more powerful and can handle more torque than the 7 speed and the 7 speed is loaded with problems mostly valve body. That's why the CLS 500 has the 7 speed but the CLS 55 AMG has the five speed. And it's bulletproof. Probably the best transmission ever produced by MB. Don't ask for a real expensive headache.
