2006 CLS55AMG IWC should I buy it?

I'm looking for some input on a purchase I'm contemplating. It's a 2006 CLS55 AMG--IWC. The car is immaculate with only 34k miles. No codes, with a clean service record done through the dealerships. I currently own a 2003 S430 that I will be replacing it with the CLS. From a initial test drive, it's not near the ride comfort and quietness. And, I suppose it shouldn't be. I can get 29 MPG highway in my S. what can I expect from the AMG? Does everyone run premium also? Anyone use one of these as a daily driver? Another concern in very little reas seat leg room. What's it like back there on a long trip? What other concerns should I be considering? Also, what do you all think is a good price for one of these. Does the IWC option really add to the value much? Sure is nice looking with that package. Asking price is the upper 20's. Reasonable?

I got my CLS 55 new and it's a privilege to drive. It has the P030 performance package which makes it special and rare.

I test drove the IWC model. It's unique and very rare with the special greyed out chrome. It's gorgeous too.
I would not pass it up due to its extremely low miles and attractive price.
Get it inspected to make sure it's in good condition. These cars are bullet proof. Some issues to look out for is leaking valve cover gaskets, gas tank fume leak (free fix by mercedes), transmission mount.

Post pics please. Good Luck

34K miles is a car to collect. CLS55 is just beautiful inside out. IMO better looking than W218 and also very reliable.

Yup, its kind or hard keeping your foot out of it. I'm not impressed with the ride quality to be honest. A lot of road noise from the tires. Not nearly as quiet at the S class....

Just FYI this model came with the IWC watch, hence the model name https://www.chrono24.com/iwc/prices-for-ingenieur-amg-watches--mod80-new.htm

I have Michelin PS 4s Ultra Performace Summer Tires on my CLS 55 with the P 030 option. . You might want to change tires to improve noise and performance.

Mine rides smooth and quiet. You might need some suspension bushings replaced. Take to MB dealer to check it out. There are 3 suspension ride modes. Try out each one.

These are real performance monsters. They need to be maintained properly. The more aftermarket stuff added, the more variance from factory engineered design comfort. Make sure the airmatic suspension has not been replaced by coil over struts. This can affect ride comfort.

Thanks for the reply, M berman. I got the car through a MB dealership. Nothing has been altered and underwent a through inspection. The watch was an option to purchase when you bought the car. I was told in the neighborhood of $5k. This model was built in Germany also, with a very limited production. I think less than 100. Perhaps different tires might improve the road noise. But, it will never compare to an S class I'm afraid. I'll burn these off and try something different. It has a new set of Michelin Pilor Sport A/V 3+.

The S63 or 65 might be more to your liking.

Yes, I agree. Nothing rides like an S class, and with the power of these models would be outstanding.
Im open to a trade!

I drove the 2018 S65 Coupe. More power than one can imagine wrapped in elegance. MSRP was on the other side of $250k. Unfortunately it's puts it in Ferrari territory.

You can't compare the quality of CLS sports tuned ride to S-Class luxury comfort. These are just 2 different animals: one is built for performance and another for comfort. I think you would be interested to watch this video. Even though it's about the new generation 2019 CLS... it talks about 5-6 minutes about the history of CLS-Class and some historical footage, where 2006 CLS55 AMG was named the car of the year, and actually was the fastest production car at that time... so it's a legend

Love the car, my mate has facelift c63 and the 55 held up well in the eyes of others at the track. 2018 supercharged corvette owner couldnt believe how old it was.

Congratulations on the new car, is that desingo graphite grey metallic for the exterior? Looks a lot like mine which has the aforementioned color.
