What is my 06 CLS 550 AMG???
Hello, I recently purchased an 06 CLS 550 AMG. I've never seen one that has the CLS 550 across the back most just say CLS 55. I also believe the engine is a 5.5 liter engine instead of the 5.4 (only because some of the VIN research I've done says it's a 5.5 liter). Any help in identifing the car would be appreciated. Thanks.

'99 and '05 E55 AMG
A 2006 E or C-class AMG is easy to recognize because there is a supercharger on top of the engine and two belts on the engine front; one serpentine and one supercharger. If no supercharger, a previous owner just stuck an AMG badge on your car or the dealer sold it as an "AMG package". Engine size for the 550 and 55 are only a few cc's in difference IIRC (5.46 liter +/- 10cc?). The clutched supercharger is what makes the difference in performance and maintenance cost.
If anyone knows different, please say so.

It's definitely and AMG... Super Charged and everything....
WDDDJ76X86A029315 I bought it as a salvage vehicle and rebuilt it recently. All VIN searches come up as AMG, some with 5.4 and some with 5.5. All VINs match, even did a diagnostic search and recovered the VIN internally. It could be something as simple as someone stuck a zero on the end of the 55 but the fact the VIN search kept coming back with two different engines made me wonder.

just look under the hood and see if you have a big engine with amg badges on and a master mechanic signature.
but from the pictures, it looks like someone added the zero to throll other cars. lol

Lol... That's what I thought too... It has everything AMG, signature engine, white guages, door sill plates, seats, it even has an AMG lounge sticker in the front window ( cause only real AMGs have those

That's a first. People usually find out after purchase that they got duped by a badge and a liar. Looks like you landed on the real thing!

I'm pretty handy, I plan on doing all the service on the vehicle myself. As for parts, I've already found out how exspensive the parts are just putting this thing back together from the accident. Super easy to repair, because all the structural parts bolt in (no welding) but super expensive even compared to other Mercedes part, but It's been fun.
