Transmission Not Shifting Into Drive

Just bought a new CLS55 from a MBworld member. My driveway (on a hill) requires a shift from reverse to forward to straighten the car out of the garage.

I have noticed when starting the process of backing out (reverse), when I shift into drive, the car stays in neutral. This seems to be only on cold start, and once I get into drive, I have no transmission issues. It might take a restart of the car, or a second or two for it to catch into drive.

I'm still learning this car so I want to see if this is a common issue or something to check out.

I haven’t had this issue on my 2011 CLS63, but in a couple of my past cars, this type of thing would mean low trans fluid. As little as a liter low would cause the problem.
What year is your car? How many miles? If you have a lot of miles, the fluid could need to be changed.

It's an 06 cls 55, I just bought it at 98k so that indeed might be a good idea. That's the 722.6 transmission same as E55 right?
