Door Rubber Seal - what is this for?

Hi,

Just noticed today that the round rubber bit (see pix below) on my driver side door disappeared. There's a hole there now.
Can anyone let me know what is this piece called and what function does it play (if any). Is it vital to get a replacement? what's the part number?

The piece you are talking about is the rubber cover for access to the top rear nut of the window regulator. There should be another rubber piece inside to help keep water out of the door. I would take the rubber cover off from the other door and take it to an auto parts store to find something as close as possible. It's purpose is to keep water and dirt out of the inside of your door.
