16" wheels. It seems there are some new tires from Dunlop and maybe others.

Which is the best H/V or equivalent snow tire available? We had PA2s for the past two winters.

Two years ago you recommended the than new Michelin PA2s over the then new Bridgestone LM25 and Dunlop M3. Their are no comparative tests on the Tire Rack site. Owner reviews seem to place both the Dunlop and Michelin above the Bridgestone, especially in dry handling and noise.

The only new tire here is the Dunlop 3D. Although they are still selling the M3, Tire Rack seems to be only selling the 3D.

Since the Dunlop M3 seems to have the best owner reviews, is the 3D an even better tire? It is also $78 or so dollars cheaper for a set.

while the Michelin and the Dunlop do offer better dry road handling the LM25 is better in the snow .... the new 3D is the replacement for the M3 and the only change is a slight tread design change to increase snow traction. The internal carcass and rubber compound has not changed

best performance ranking IMHO

snow traction = Blizzak
Ride quality = Michelin
overall balance = Dunlop

with the limited info given on many internet posts I will always err on the side of snow traction when discussing winter tires

With an emphasis on low noise and dry/wet traction, which tire do you prefer?

The Michelins may have one advantage for us...if we have a problem, we can use one of the old tires (1/2 worn) as a spare. Although it could probably be used with the others also.

P.S.
We bought the Firestone Firehawk Wide Ovals last spring...and they are incredibly good: performance, ride, handling. Possibly the best tire available for this car.

I was wondering how the Dunlop 3D tire is being rated or reviewed, now that it's been around longer. I still don't see any analytical comparison tests for it.

I would try these tires if they are available in your size. See my other threads. I use them on my CL55 and they are cheaper and perform at least as well as the expensive alternatives. They are VERY popular in Europe.

OK, I give up. Are you referring to Michelins (snow tires) or the Firehawk Wide Oval (performance tire)??

Had Blizzaks on my Bimmer and now on my EClass. Very low noise, does well in dry weather and will work great in the snow. Better than Alpin's (have had both).

I just put my new Dunlop D3s on my 17in wheels and switched off the AMG 18s

just as far as dry handling... the D3s do pretty well for a dedicated snow tire... not nearly as noisy as my PS2s .. and certainly a more compliant ride.

we had an inch of snow and the tires were great too .... so far happy.

We got 5 inches of snow last night/today. I got the Dunlop Wintersport 3D tires on the C230 just in time!!! I like them so far, considering the sidewall profile and width of the tires (stock size).
