diff lugbolts?
i just got some new mandrus wheels and they didn't send the lugbolts. Am I okay using the stock lugbolts?
thanks |
Do NOT use your stock lugs. I had read one member use the stock lugs with those Mandrus and it turned out the stock lugs destroyed the emergency brake. I belive you need a new set of lugs. You can ask the store where you get your wheels.
Good luck |
yeah, i read that one or else i wouldn't have even asked. Never had a car with lugbolts before. I would have assumed that the stock ones would work. thanks for the reply

pull your stock rims. drop in the stock lug bolt and measure how much the
threaded portion extends beyond the hub surface. that's the maximum the bolt should extend if used in your new rims. you can also bolt on new rims using stock bolts....but (!).... rotate the rim and listen/feel for any bolt contact with brake parts. some folks have not tested and simply bolted and drove off, shredding their brake system. be clear that many aftermarket rims eschew the ball seat design and may either be different ball size/radius....or may be using conical seat bolts. the rim manuf should have been consulted and provided you with the proper sized bolts. you didnt specific which car you are attempting to put rims on, so simply guessing..... |
Thanks raymond, I test fit one wheel on my 07 c230 and hand tightened and they were still way loose. on the stock wheels i can only see threads on the back side, on the manrus the non threaded part extends about 2 or 3 mm beyond.

be *very* careful at this point. one the surface, it sounds as if the bolts
are bottoming out after youv'e cinched them down. it also appears that the cross section of the new wheel (at the lug point) is *thinner* than your stock wheels. still hard to be precise but there are now TWO red flags. dont even think of using your current lug bolts. you need someone with experience to help determine the exact size needed. each of these needs a clear and concise answer, vis-a-vis new Mandrus rims matched to your 07 C230.: ___ lug bolt length (shank) ___ lug bolt diameter ___ ball seat or cone seat ___ ball seat radius go back to 203 forum and search "Mandrus". read threads...learn from others' mistakes...and successes |
