SL versus XL load rating... advice needed
I'm looking to run a bit wider tire on the front, as my current tire (225/40/18) is a bit stretched on the 8.5" wide wheel. That tire size worked fine on the factory front wheels (7.5") but offers no rim protection with my Mandrus wheels.
I will be going with the Continental DW, and was considering the 235/35/18 as it is better suited to a 8.5" wheel but I noticed the load rating (SL) was lighter than the factory tires' load rating.
My vehicle's curb weight is ~3,000 pounds, but I do push the car aggressively in the corners and do high-speed runs from time to time.
Will I be okay with an SL load rating? Or should I go back with the narrower tire simply to retain the XL rating? I looked at the 235/40/18 but it's a bit taller than I'd like to go with, as I already rub with the 225/40 at full lock, and on severe bumps.
Any advice greatly appreciated.
