This is the broken tab. So I needed a replacement stop for the spring. As the wheel turns while closing, the spring catches the stop and adds tension while winding up. When you open it that tension unwinds forcing the cupholder open. The "lock" to keep it closed is on the right of this pic under that brass retainer. Look at it to see how it works, matching up with the bottom of the cupholder.
