This article applies to Mercedes-Benz E-Class and E-Class AMG (2002-2009).

The cabin air filter filters any air circulating in the cockpit of the car. Replacing the cabin air filter ensures you're breathing fresh air on a daily basis. The process is very easy, and doing it yourself is quick and painless. Here's how!

Materials Needed

  • Torx T25 screwdriver
  • Needle-nosed pliers
  • Flat head screwdriver

Step 1 – Locate the filter

The filter is located in the passenger foot-well area.

Step 2 – Remove Torx screws

Step 3 – Pull trim down

Pull the trim down from the front. Don't pull it all the way down because you need to disconnect two wires before completely removing it.

Step 4 – Remove footwell light connector and sensor

With your fingers or the needle-nosed pliers, carefully remove the footwell light connector on the right. Also, remove the sensor you find there.

Step 5 – Remove cabin trim completely

After removing both wires, pull the cabin trim down farther, then lift it out.

Step 11 – Re-install the trim

Tuck the cabin trim back in by pushing it behind the carpet and up. Reconnect the sensor and footwell light wires (test by closing the door). Re-install the Torx screws.
