Mercedes-AMG SL55 / SL63 - 14/21 MPG (16 Combined)
Mercedes-Benz revitalized the SL nameplate with the latest SL 63 and SL 55 models, bringing some much-needed bravado to the legendary roadster lineage. After a short hiatus since the discontinuation of the R231 model in 2020, the Mercedes SL was reintroduced as an AMG-only model for 2022. The gorgeous new convertible is powered by the brand's proven 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8, producing 469 horses for the SL 55 and 577 for the SL 63. The powerful engine yields a combined fuel economy of 16 MPG in both applications.
Mercedes-AMG GLS63 4Matic Plus - 14/19 (16 Combined)
It's hard to believe that a 2+2 roadster and a 3-row full-size SUV can have the same EPA-estimated fuel economy. But the Mercedes-AMG GLS 63 4Matic Plus also has a combined fuel economy of 16 MPG combined. The highway mileage is understandably lower than the SL, though, due to the big SUV's significantly larger frontal area.
Mercedes Maybach S680 - 12/20 MPG (14 Combined)
Unlike all the other vehicles on this list, which boasts 4.0-liter V8s, the Mercedes-Maybach S680 is powered by a 12-cylinder 6-liter motor. Given the fact that this Maybach is designed as the ultimate luxury vehicle, the smooth operator that is the twin-turbo V12 is a natural powertrain of choice. Of course, that also leads to relatively high fuel consumption, 12 in the city and 20 MPG on the highway in this case.
Mercedes-AMG G63 / Mercedes-Benz G550 - 13/16 MPG (14 Combined)
Unsurprising to anyone, the G63 and G550 are close to the top of this list. The heavy and un-aerodynamic stature of the G-Wagen combined with the powerful V8s under the hood results in a fuel economy of 14 MPG combined. And it can only be topped by another, heavier, and less aerodynamic version of the G-Wagen itself...
Mercedes-AMG G63 4x4 Squared 10/12 MPG (11 Combined)
With as much frontal surface area as Mercedes-Benz offers in their lineup, the G63 4x4 Squared is the ultimate off-roader for those who dare to take the near $400K truck off the grid. And the 585-horsepower V8 achieves a fuel economy of 11 MPG combined, as rated by the EPA.
