Cinematic Inspiration, Real-World Execution

Celebrating the upcoming release of Brad Pitt’s Formula 1 film F1, Mercedes-AMG has introduced a special version of its GT coupe. Officially dubbed the AMG GT APXGP Edition, this model takes visual cues from the fictional APXGP team featured in the movie. Despite its cinematic origins, this is a fully functional, street-legal machine, with only 52 examples set to be produced globally.

Performance Rooted in the GT 63 Platform

Underneath the striking livery, the APXGP Edition is based on the AMG GT 63 4Matic+ and uses the familiar 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine, producing 585 horsepower. This ensures the car isn’t just a collectible showpiece but a serious performance vehicle consistent with AMG's usual standards.

Bespoke Livery: Matte Black Meets Gold

One of the standout elements of this limited edition is the hand-painted matte black finish, accented with gold highlights that run across the grille, sides, diffuser, and rear wing. The 21-inch cross-forged alloy wheels also wear a gold finish, matching the gold-outlined grille and side stripes. The rear features a fade from black into dark gray, adding a subtle contrast.

Carbon Fiber and Night Package Features

The APXGP Edition comes with several AMG visual and aerodynamic packages as standard. The Exterior Carbon Fiber Package incorporates carbon elements like the splitter, sill trims, diffuser, and a fixed rear wing. The AMG Night Package II brings gloss black accents and black badging, reinforcing the stealthy tone of the car's appearance.

Interior: Gold Highlights in a Dark Cabin

Inside, the cabin continues the theme with black Nappa leather and Microcut microfiber upholstery, punctuated by gold contrast stitching. Gold elements appear on the steering wheel, instrument panel, air vents, and center console. Additional trim includes exposed carbon fiber and a "Limited Edition 1 of 52" badge on the center console, emphasizing the car’s exclusivity.

Soundtrack by Burmester, Story by Hollywood

A 1170-watt Burmester 3D surround sound system with 15 speakers allows occupants to enjoy movie scores or V8 engine notes in full fidelity. While the car includes cupholders, reviewers jokingly noted that it lacks a spot for popcorn—an ironic omission for a model tied so closely to cinema.

Behind-the-Scenes Role in the Film

Mercedes-AMG’s involvement in F1 extends beyond a cosmetic tie-in. The brand supplied several cars for the production, including the SL, G-Class, and GT, which appear on- and off-track. AMG also provides the engines for the fictional APXGP team's race cars. Lewis Hamilton, a longtime Mercedes F1 driver, is a co-producer on the film.

Limited Availability, Undefined Price

Mercedes has not disclosed pricing or the specific markets that will receive the APXGP Edition. Given the extremely limited run of just 52 cars and the high-profile nature of the release, availability may already be spoken for.
