HWA's Modern Revival of a Classic

HWA, renowned engineering experts, has unveiled a highly anticipated modernized version of the legendary Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.5-16 Evo II. Known simply as the Evo, this restomod is a contemporary tribute to the iconic model and will be showcased at auction in late July. With a production limit of just 100 units, the Evo boasts a unique combination of original and modern elements, transforming the classic car into a modern marvel.

Enhanced Engineering and Design

The foundation of each Evo is an original Mercedes 190E shell, extensively modified with a new front-end structure and a near rear end crafted from steel and aluminum. The exterior is adorned with bespoke carbon fiber body panels that faithfully replicate the original 190E 2.5-16 Evo II's distinctive look. 

Powerful Twin-Turbo V6 Engine

Under the hood, the Evo replaces the original 2.6-liter four-cylinder engine with a formidable 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V6 from Mercedes-Benz. This engine, equipped with a dry-sump lubrication system, delivers an impressive 444 hp and 405 lb-ft of torque in standard form, or up to 493 hp with the optional Affalterbach package. Positioned behind the front axle, the engine contributes to the car's perfect 50:50 weight distribution, providing exceptional handling and performance.

Superior Performance and Suspension

The Evo's performance is further enhanced by a six-speed manual transmission driving the rear wheels, with a top speed of 168 mph for the standard model and 185 mph with the performance package. The suspension system features double wishbones and KW dampers, with the more advanced electronically adjustable dampers available in the performance versions. High-performance brakes, including optional carbon ceramic discs, ensure precise stopping power.

Aerodynamics and Interior Features

HWA's design also focuses on aerodynamics, with flared arches, a bold front splitter, and a towering rear wing contributing to a peak downforce of 80 kg at 125 mph. Although images of the interior have not been released, it is known that the Evo will include a digital instrument cluster mimicking the original gauges, along with standard Recaro seats and smartphone integration.

A Limited and Coveted Production

With only 100 units being produced, the Evo has already seen significant demand, with approximately 75% of the units sold even before the auction. Priced starting at €714,000 (~$767,000) before taxes, the Evo is not just a car but a collector's dream, offering a unique blend of classic charm and cutting-edge engineering.
