That distance roughly equals circling Earth’s equator about 40 times or traveling to the Moon and back twice. Now 35 years old, the sedan was sold recently through the online auction site Cars & Bids.
A Different Era of Durability
The car’s story highlights the long-standing reputation of older Mercedes-Benz models for durability. Vehicles from the early 1990s, especially the W124 generation, were often known for accumulating extremely high mileage with proper maintenance. In contrast, modern luxury cars prioritize safety technology, electronics, and comfort features, traits that sometimes make million-mile longevity feel far less common.
Ownership and Mileage Mystery
The current owner reportedly acquired the car in 2021. Although the odometer reads 115,107 miles, it uses a six-digit display that resets after reaching its maximum reading. Documentation suggests the car already surpassed the million-mile mark before rolling back to zero. Supporting that claim is a Mercedes-Benz High Mileage Award, a recognition historically given by the automaker to vehicles that reach major mileage milestones.
Carfax Flags and Accident History
A report from Carfax lists a potential odometer rollback recorded in January 2017, though the seller believes the entry likely reflects the odometer resetting after surpassing one million miles. The same report also documents several incidents during the car’s long life: rear-end damage in 2022, minor damage to the left side in 2016, and a front-end impact with a stationary object in 2003.
When new, the 1991 300D carried a sticker price of $41,400. It remains registered in Tennessee and retains several original features typical of the W124 era, including MB-Tex upholstery, power-adjustable front seats, a power sunroof, and automatic climate control. The car rides on 15-inch wheels and is finished in black with a gray interior.
Five-Cylinder Diesel Power
Under the hood sits a 2.5-liter turbodiesel inline-five engine producing 121 horsepower and 165 lb-ft of torque, paired with a four-speed automatic transmission that drives the rear wheels. Over decades of use, the sedan received several modifications. The catalytic converter was removed, the suspension was lowered, and adjustable rear camber arms were installed. The car also gained a keyless entry system and a Bluetooth audio adapter—modern touches added to a vehicle originally designed before wireless connectivity became common.

Cosmetically, the car clearly shows the effects of extensive use. The paint exhibits chips and blemishes, the front bumper is cracked and misaligned, and interior wood trim has developed cracks. The driver’s seat bolster shows noticeable wear, while rust is visible around the passenger-side rear wheel arch and door. Maintenance and Repairs
Despite its worn appearance, the car has received continued maintenance. The seller reports replacing several components in late 2024, including the heater blower motor, thermostat, fan clutch, water pump, radiator hose, and engine air filter. Earlier in 2026, the fan shroud was replaced. A major structural repair occurred in October 2021 with the installation of a new rear subframe, and the turbocharger had already been replaced by a previous owner.

Given the extremely high mileage and the flagged history report, it's difficult to determine a value for the car in comparison to typical market values for the W124 generation.
