The Debut of a Convertible Maybach

Mercedes has expanded the Maybach portfolio with the introduction of the 2026 SL 680 Monogram Series, marking the first production convertible in the Maybach lineup. While this model is not as dramatic as the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 Cabriolet concept, the SL 680 makes a distinctive impression with its luxurious design. A rebadged and enhanced version of the Mercedes SL, the vehicle is adorned with the Maybach monogram on the air intake, soft top, and optionally, on the hood—a touch reminiscent of high-end fashion brands. This convertible signifies a unique blend of legacy and modernity.

Bold Exterior Styling

The exterior of the SL 680 is available in two color schemes—Red Ambience and White Ambience. Both variants come with an illuminated Maybach-specific grille, a chrome windshield frame, and eye-catching rose-gold accents in the headlights. Buyers can opt for either five-hole Monoblock or multi-spoke 21-inch wheels.

Attention to Detail

The black soft top sports a subtle anthracite Maybach logo pattern, extending this luxurious branding throughout the design. Additionally, buyers have the option to apply this same pattern to the hood, where it’s meticulously hand-finished. The rear is equally detailed, featuring unique taillights, a chrome-trimmed rear fascia, and a bespoke diffuser.

A Bespoke Interior

The SL 680’s cabin is swathed in crystal-white Nappa leather, covering nearly every surface, from the steering wheel and seats to the center console. The space where rear seats would usually be is similarly decked out in premium leather.

Crafted for Luxury

Notably, this model is a two-seater, trading the extra passenger capacity for a sleeker and sportier rear design. Other luxury touches include stainless steel pedals, custom door sills, and exclusive Maybach-specific graphics on the media display and digital gauge cluster.

Performance Tweaks

While the SL 680 shares its 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine with the AMG SL63, its performance is tuned for smoothness rather than raw speed. Generating 577 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque, the SL 680 reaches 0-60 mph in 4.0 seconds, slightly slower than its AMG counterpart.

Refined Comfort

The top speed is capped at 160 mph, well below the 196 mph of the SL63. To enhance comfort, engineers recalibrated the suspension, added extra sound insulation, and softened the engine mounts. Even the exhaust system is optimized to be quieter, ensuring a more serene driving experience.

A Premium Experience at a Premium Price

The SL 680 also introduces a sportier look by eliminating the rear seats in favor of an aerodynamic deck extension. This feature distinguishes it from the regular SL models, emphasizing exclusivity. While pricing details have not yet been released, the SL 680 is expected to start well above the $210,000 range, given that the SL63 already commands a hefty price tag. The vehicle will be available in select markets, with European deliveries slated for spring 2025, and U.S. deliveries following later in the year.
