AMG’s Electric Super Sedan

Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe is preparing for a major overhaul, and Mercedes has now revealed the interior of the next-generation model ahead of its full debut later this spring. The car effectively serves as the production counterpart to the Mercedes-AMG GT XX Concept shown last year. Positioned as a high-performance EV rival to cars like the Porsche Taycan, the new AMG four-door will also introduce Mercedes-AMG’s dedicated electric performance architecture known as AMG.EA.

Driver-Focused Layout

Unlike the symmetrical “Hyperscreen” setups used in many recent Mercedes models, the new AMG GT’s dashboard places a clear emphasis on the driver. The main infotainment display, measuring about 14 inches, is angled slightly toward the driver’s seat. It works alongside a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster, while buyers can optionally add another 14-inch display for the front passenger.

Mercedes says the layout was designed in Affalterbach to create the “most direct possible interaction between human and machine,” reinforcing the car’s performance-oriented character.

Screens Replace Climate Buttons

One of the most noticeable changes is the disappearance of the traditional climate-control buttons. Earlier versions of the car had a row of physical HVAC switches beneath the infotainment screen, but those have now been eliminated. Temperature adjustments and other climate functions are handled entirely through the MBUX interface, with digital controls pinned to the bottom of the display.

Mercedes describes the system as a “balanced operating concept” that combines touchscreens, haptic inputs, and voice commands. Still, the shift means fewer traditional controls compared with some rivals that have recently begun reintroducing physical switches.

Physical Dials Still Remain

Despite the move toward digital controls, AMG hasn’t abandoned tactile inputs entirely. Three large rotary controllers sit on the center tunnel, providing direct access to the car’s performance settings.

These knobs control several key systems: Response Control adjusts how the electric motors and accelerator respond, Agility Control alters cornering characteristics, and Traction Control offers nine selectable levels through AMG’s Race Engineer system. Drivers can also access important functions through two steering-wheel buttons that incorporate small LCD displays.

Performance-Focused Cabin Details

The rest of the cabin includes several AMG-specific design touches. The air vents are illuminated and styled to resemble jet engines, while the flat-bottom steering wheel features carbon-fiber accents and haptic feedback controls. Optional AMG Performance seats further emphasize the car’s sporting intent.

A metal-style wing element stretches across the center console, visually separating the driver’s side from the passenger area.

Charging and Interior Practicality

Mercedes has also incorporated small functional upgrades. Two wireless charging pads sit beneath the central display with a divider to keep devices from sliding around during spirited driving, and the cupholders are illuminated.

In the rear, the car will typically feature two individual seats, reinforcing its performance-focused layout rather than a family-oriented configuration. A five-seat arrangement will still be available for buyers who prefer a traditional bench.

Smart Glass Roof Feature

Another technological highlight is the optional Sky Control panoramic roof. The glass panel can switch between transparent and opaque modes electronically. At night, the roof can even project illuminated AMG emblems or racing-stripe graphics across the glass, synchronized with the vehicle’s ambient lighting system.

Electric Power and Performance

The upcoming AMG GT 4-Door will also mark the first production model built on the AMG.EA platform, which is designed specifically for high-performance electric vehicles. The concept that previewed the car featured three axial-flux electric motors producing a combined 1,341 horsepower (1,000 kW). It also used a battery pack with Formula 1-inspired cooling technology and ultra-fast charging capability that could add roughly 249 miles (400 km) of range in about five minutes.

Launch Timeline

Mercedes-AMG plans to fully reveal the new electric GT 4-Door later this spring, with deliveries expected to begin before the end of the year. While the final production specifications have yet to be confirmed, the interior preview suggests AMG is trying to balance traditional driver engagement with the increasingly screen-heavy approach common in modern EVs.
