GLE Owners Reporting Loose MB-Tex Seating Surfaces
MB-Tex Seating Surfaces Seem to Be Separating From the Bottom Seat Cushion. And in Fairly New Cars, too
It wasn’t long ago that MB-Tex upholstery was in the news and on or forums. An issue with materials made the seats “bleed” in cold weather, causing bizarre oily stains. But now, the issue isn’t with the bleeding, it’s with the quality of the material. And the way it fits on the seating surface.
GLE models seem to be the most widely affected by this quality issue. According to a recent MBWorld thread, the material appears “loose” and well-worn, even with relatively low-mile cars. Even worse, it is appearing on both driver and passenger front seats. And in some cases, the passenger seat is rarely used.

Forum member GLE43_Sube has already tried to contact MBUSA regarding the issue. And he wasn’t thrilled with their response:
All I can say is, “Wow”! I contacted MB USA and informed them of this problem. I even included a link to this specific forum thread … Basically because you guys are reporting this on the Internet, your complaints have no validity. Either you’re all liars, or this is a figment of your imagination. They completely dismissed the problem and have the audacity to even try to sell me a car. It doesn’t sound like they even bothered to read this forum. My recommendation? Make a warranty claim.
Seems like MBUSA won’t issue a recall until enough complaints are made about the issue. To us, it only seems fair that a quality issue be addressed. But that’s an outcome that is in the hands of our forum members rather than us. However, we do hope that spreading the word gets more GLE owners involved.
