Mercedes C63 AMG Versus Lexus LFA in Nitto’s Battle of the Streets

Alright, I’ll admit it: I’m not a “real” sports fan. I can’t stand football or basketball, or anything like that. I love racing, and that’s about it. However, I am a fan of bracket battling. It’s a great form of competition. Essentially, you take a group of teams, pit them against each other, and the last two standing battle head to head. While most brackets are relegated to the traditional sports arena, Nitto Tire wants to change all that.

This year the tire manufacturer invited 16 of the world’s fastest streetcars to Los Angeles for Nitto’s “Battle of the Streets.” To set the event off, Nitto persuaded the City of Los Angeles to close the 6th Street Bridge, then supplied the cars with a set of Nitto Tires, and seeded them in the bracket to face off against one another.

The competition among the cars is compellingly tight, especially when you consider the bracket is full of supercars, muscles cars, and European exotics, all going head to head on the streets of L.A. Fortunately, we can deem this a valid competition, because they’ve included a Mercedes C63 AMG.

Here’s the deats, from Nitto’s slick site:

The tournament consists of three elimination rounds taking place on March 26th-27th, March 30th-31st, and April 2nd during which time the two brackets, named after Nitto’s highly popular NT05 and NT555 performance street tires, will be whittled down to the top two cars before culminating with the Finals on Monday, April 6th. During these two and a half weeks of competition, enthusiasts will be treated to some truly unique matchups between some of the most impressive cars on the street. This year’s field includes such heavyweights as the McLaren 650S, the Porsche GT3, the Mercedes C63, the Ford GT, the Saleen GTX, and the Lamborghini Aventador. But you can’t count out the domestic muscle and other possible underdogs waiting to disrupt the field and upset the highly favored supercars.”

In round one (which you can see the highlights of in the video below), our beloved C63, a 2012 Black Series with 520 horsepower and 457 torque, ran up against a 2012 Lexus LFA with 557 horsepower and 384 torque. So unfortunately, there’s not going to be a round two for the C63.

Oh well, that’s why they call it March Madness.
