Not too many cars can trace their DNA back several decades, but the E-Class certainly can. It has a rich history full of technical innovation, safety, and performance, plus it is seen by many as a stop-gap for Mercedes’ known quality and performance, at a more attainable price than the flagship models.

Using iconic models such as the W114, the “fin tail,” and more, the celebration of the E-Class below showcases that despite being unified by the E-Class designation, there are often vast differences between models. The current E-Class can be seen as an executive class car, an economic car, a cabrio, or even a super sports car — all based on which flavor you want. The diversity is what makes the E-Class truly special.

This celebration took place at the Sindelfingen plant in Germany, where the E-class is manufactured, and journalists were able to sample the many generations to compare how far technology has come for this popular Mercedes. It bears mentioning that following closely behind the C-Class and M/GLE-Class in the U.S., the E-Class is one of Mercedes’ highest volume movers.
