It’s Not a Stretch to Call the 2016 Mercedes-Maybach Pullman Luxurious

Mercedes-Maybach Pullman

Mercedes-Benz is bringing Maybach back with a vengeance. In fact, it’s included the name in a new sub-brand: Mercedes-Maybach. It hasn’t been that long since the introduction of the Mercedes-Maybach S600, but there’s now another model in the portfolio. Not just any model, though: a Pullman, just in time for the 50th birthday year of what M-B calls “the best-known … Pullman, the Mercedes 600.”

“Many governments, rulers and royal families around the world have for decades chosen Mercedes-Benz sedans with the designation ‘Pullman’ to drive them with the stateliness and style befitting their status,” Mercedes states in a press release. A 21.3 feet-long body with a wheelbase of 14.5 feet will definitely make a statement. Dignitaries will have even more room in which to conduct their official business thanks to a body that’s more than 3.9 inches taller than that of a Mercedes S-Class.

As the following picture shows, the new Pullman has four rear seats. The executive seats that face the partition, which can be turned from transparent to opaque with the push of a button, feature backrests that can be adjusted without affecting the footwell and seat reference point. Those lucky enough to sit on one of the special thrones can tilt the back section as much as 43.5 degrees.

Diplomats who get to the office in the comfort of a 2016 Pullman’s leather-stuffed interior can stay up to date on the latest global developments by watching an 18.5-inch screen in front of the division between the driver and the passenger compartment. After work, they can relax by listening to one of two Burmester audio systems: a standard unit or a Burmester® High-End 3D Surround Sound System.

The Mercedes-Maybach Pullman S600’s 6-liter twin-turbo V12 develops 523 horsepower and 612 lb.-ft. of torque, and will make sure ambassadors get to important summits in record time.

Clients outside of the U.S. can take delivery of the $566,922 Mercedes-Maybach Pullman S600 (without armor) at the beginning of next year. Customers in the States will have to wait to find out when they can expect to receive theirs.

Derek Shiekhi's father raised him on cars. As a boy, Derek accompanied his dad as he bought classics such as post-WWII GM trucks and early Ford Mustang convertibles.

After loving cars for years and getting a bachelor's degree in Business Management, Derek decided to get an associate degree in journalism. His networking put him in contact with the editor of the Austin-American Statesman newspaper, who hired him to write freelance about automotive culture and events in Austin, Texas in 2013. One particular story led to him getting a certificate for learning the foundations of road racing.

While watching TV with his parents one fateful evening, he saw a commercial that changed his life. In it, Jeep touted the Wrangler as the Texas Auto Writers Association's "SUV of Texas." Derek knew he had to join the organization if he was going to advance as an automotive writer. He joined the Texas Auto Writers Association (TAWA) in 2014 and was fortunate to meet several nice people who connected him to the representatives of several automakers and the people who could give him access to press vehicles (the first one he ever got the keys to was a Lexus LX 570). He's now a regular at TAWA's two main events: the Texas Auto Roundup in the spring and the Texas Truck Rodeo in the fall.

Over the past several years, Derek has learned how to drive off-road in various four-wheel-drive SUVs (he even camped out for two nights in a Land Rover), and driven around various tracks in hot hatches, muscle cars, and exotics. Several of his pieces, including his article about the 2015 Ford F-150 being crowned TAWA's 2014 "Truck of Texas" and his review of the Alfa Romeo 4C Spider, have won awards in TAWA's annual Excellence in Craft Competition. Last year, his JK Forum profile of Wagonmaster, a business that restores Jeep Wagoneers, won prizes in TAWA’s signature writing contest and its pickup- and SUV-focused Texas Truck Invitational.

In addition to writing for a variety of Internet Brands sites, including JK Forum, H-D Forums, The Mustang Source, Mustang Forums, LS1Tech, HondaTech, Jaguar Forums, YotaTech, and Ford Truck Enthusiasts. Derek also started There Will Be Cars on Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube.
