Showcasing the Wonderful CLK GTR

It’s not a Nissan, but it still remains one of the most iconic cars to ever wear the GTR badge. It is of course the CLK-GTR, and there’s not another road-going Mercedes that can come close to it in terms of performance or panache. Homologation rules for the FiA, or Federation of Automobiles International, mandated that any cars that competed in international endurance racing MUST have a road-going version. Thus the CLK-GTR was born.

The car raced with success, but is most well known for the airborne adventure featuring Mark Weber at LeMans. FiA’s GT1 category was short lived, making way for a prototype shortly after, but it left enough of a mark with legendary road cars that were left in its wake. CLK-GTR, McLaren F1 GTR, Lotus Elise GT, among others.

Of the few that were produced, none of us are ever likely to buy one, as you’d have to have almost too much money to afford one. Occasionally they are spotted at museums and auctions, which pleases us indeed. Have you ever seen one? I only have once, and that was at the Mercedes production plant in Sindelfingen. But I’ve been a better man since then.
