Tough AMG Competition for AMG GT-S on the Drag Strip

Its kinda hard to sit here and watch an AMG GT-S battle a sedan and an SUV and get crushed by both. My eyes had to adjust to what I was seeing. Then again, the prowess of the other AMG models the GT-S was racing remains mighty and strong. Granted, the competition has an advantage. It seems like the CLS63 has had a bit done to it, and the ML certainly has. It still doesn’t lessen the shock when you see that ML launch like a scared doe with a tail wind.

The race is a combined 1/4 mile and 1/2 mile race, done in one go.  Timing equipment is set up at both of the aforementioned lengths, while the racers dash down a two lane track. The first race finds the white AMG GT-S paired up with the CLS63. Reaction times are not either driver’s strong point, but once the race finally gets going, the CLS starts to easily increase the lead. The CLS has 1/4 and 1/2 times of 11.3 and 17.7 respectfully. The GT-S does the same distance a bit slower at 12.7 and 18.2.

Racing against the ML proves to be an even bigger surprise. A quick launch off the line helps the ML, but soon its bulk starts to play a role in the outcome. It still wins, with 11.8/18.3 second pass, with the GT-S trailing closely behind at 12.2/18.6 seconds. Still, that ML launches so well, I can’t get it out of my mind…
