Throwback Thursday: Blast-Off With the Brabus Rocket

Back in the heyday of 2009, the world was gifted with a machine called the Brabus Rocket. This modified CLS was good for more than 700 horsepower, and it featured a top speed of 227 mph. That made it the fastest 4-door in the world. Things have changed a bit since then, but this car is still one of the greatest, and the fastest, Mercedes ever built. So let’s take a look back at some old footage from Fifth Gear for some high octane Throwback Thursday action.

The video below features Jason Plato taking the Rocket to the holiest of high-speed meccas, Germany’s Autobahn. This mad man is in hot pursuit of the 200 mph mark, but halfway through the day, disaster strikes. The car breaks down, and the issue is too bad to be repaired on the spot. Thankfully the crew at Brabus had a second car handy, so after just a bit of waiting, Plato gets to go back out and try it again.

With it getting later in the day, traffic is picking up, and Plato is having a hard time finding clear road. Does he hit his magical 200 mph target? You’ll have to watch to find out.
