Last week we told you about how Mercedes, for some unknown reason, was planning to build a new pickup truck to be sold to consumers. Of course, it would be one of the cushiest pickups ever built. However, when Mercedes dropped the press release, one key pickup crazy country wasn’t on the list of who will be getting the new truck: ‘Murica. That however might all be changing.

According to the original press release, the U.S. was one of the only countries that wasn’t going to get the new Mercedes pickup, which we now know will be made in partnership with Renault-Nissan Alliance (as discussed in the video below). However, after a warm reaction to the idea of a pickup here in the States, Mercedes is reconsidering bringing the new truck to America

“We are open, and let us assess the market… if that leads to us saying green light, then we will bring it,” said Mercedes USA Chief Steve Cannon while speaking to Automotive News.

Cannon went on to further discuss how Ford, Dodge, and Chevy all have a fairly tight hold on the work truck market, so if they brought the new pickup here, it would definitely be targeting more affluent clients, like the G63 buyer.

What do you all think? Is this a good thing for Mercedes, or should they just leave the American truck market to the stalwarts?
