Locator Holes?

I have a 1989 190e 2.6 (w201) and I'm thinking of removing the trunk/decklid 190e badge but I'm not sure of there are locator holes behind it. I just don't want to take it off and find out because I there is, then I just have the hassle of reglueing it back on. SO, any of you guys know if there's locator holes behind the 190e badge on the trunk lid?!

Yes. The badges actually clip in, the little plastic clips go around guide rods on the badges and clip into the lid placement holes, press snap affixed. The double sided tape is just icing.

On much later models badges became simply double sided tape affixed. The change is mostly because older cars used to have chromed metal badges (you can order Merc ones in gold or silver plating fyi), but newer cars have chromed plastic badges (won't be gold plating those). Plastic ones just tape on, metal ones clip and tape, some plastic ones tape but have guide holes, they don't clip though (they'd break when snapping them into place).

point is, yes there's holes in your trunk for the 190 and merc star, not sure about the 2.6 badge I haven't taken one off yet. There's also little plastic plugs in those holes if you pull the badges off, the plugs stay in and have to be removed by cutting the heads off with a razor blade then pushing them into the holes out the other side with a small dowel.
If you're having paintwork done, you can get the shop to fill the holes in before they spray the bootlid.
