Driving academy

I was looking at the driving academy brochure.. I am pretty close to Lime rock so was considering participating. I saw there are 4 stages in Europe (basic, Adv, pro and masters) and 2 in USA and I´m really not interested in going to the first stage...
After reading the brochure I feel it would be much better to go a track with a pro which I have done in the past or pay for a personal driving trainer and go to a track. If you can skip the first stage (really not interested to go to meetings that explains what over and understeer is) then it sounds like a good thing... Is this allowed?
What are your experiences and what goes on during the days there?
Also, how much do you pay for it or is it free/discounted for AMG owners? Are other than AMG owners allowed there (if I would get a friend to go with me...).

Wanted to attend the one in Toronto a few days ago but the program did not inspire me much for the money. I called them to get the details but once again, it sounded that more than half of the day was for more basic stuff. Probably great for somebody who has never had any race car lessons but it was not for me. For less money, I could go to Mosport and sign up for the Bridgestone Academy.

But somebody who actually went to this event should comment. Perhaps it's better than what I thought.

I kinda have the same feeling as u do Mr. Happy... Will be interesting to hear feedback from people who have attended. I´m sure it is professional and all but is it really worth the money?? As I wrote, it´s prob better to take ur own car to the track and have a pro in the car with u..?

The event in Canada was not part of the AMG Driving Academy.

I have attended a number of the events in Europe. From my discussions with the people in the US, 2009 is the first year where the actual Europe program is being duplicated in the US.

This is a good thing. I know someone that attended the one day in Palm Beach and they were very pleased. Tons of driving time for a one day school. From what I hear that is the biggest change. The days in the US are no longer events but driving schools.

If you have experience on track you can get out of stage 1.

A bunch of infor exists on this over at the AMG Private Lounge. They have a bunch of write ups on the European events from people who have attended.

The one thing I still hate is that in the US you still can't drive your own car.

This write up is my favorite:

A great friend of ours is the head PR guy for Limerock so i always go up there for most the events (ALS, Vintage series, etc.) I have driven on it a few times through SCCA events and I dont think there are any open track days unless you are a club member. I'll ask my guy thought and see if there's something we can get into soon.
