Seattle Dyno Day II: PHOTOS!

Just registered on these forums after being invited to take photos at a dyno day! Thanks to superlubricity for organizing the event and hiring me it was a lot of fun!

As promised...some photos (I won't be posting all 76 of them in these forums, you can see the rest at my photostream here (of course, not all 76 are done, but I will be updating my photostream constantly as I finish them): http://www.flickr.com/photos/jsitthi )

First, if you're going to shoot cars, it's essential to use a circular polarizer filter on your lens. I find it necessary in overcast weather, but it doesn't hurt to use it in sunny or indoor lighting conditions. The CPL filter will remove reflections and restore color to the surface of the car. Sometimes it even adds a little rainbow effect to the headlights!

Once the photos are uploaded to the computer, I process them through a program called DxO, where I sharpen up the photos, remove lens distortion, remove noise, fix the white balance, adjust the lighting, and little tiny things.

Then the photos are uploaded to a program called Lightroom that organizes them into my "photo library." You can edit them in this program as well, but I like to mix up my post-processing with some Photoshop as well. I use a noise removal filter on the cars selectively so they get a smooth surface, and then use a variety of lighting/contrast adjustments. The final touch is often a vignette which is the darkening of the corners that you see in most of my photos.

Thanks for the comment

Thanks I was trying to go for that magazine-type shot, but the background just doesn't compliment the cars well

Awesome shots! The gloomy weather and rain created some cool lighting and effects for the shoot. The editing is superb as well!

You didn't even mentioned your Canon 5D Mark II. I am also posistive you are shooting with L series lens as well, probably a 24-70mm f2.8 or a 24-105mm f4.0 to say the least.

Camera equipment is another thing, I'm sure you can take photos of this quality even with a D90. You just need to force yourself to use a tripod, low ISO, and sharp aperture to keep the photos clean.

Most of the shots were with a 17-40mm f/4 L. Planning on picking up a few prime non-Ls or a 24-70mm f/2.8. Haven't decided yet

Thanks

Here are two more I finished over the weekend. Sorry, I know I'm moving a bit slower now but I'm also working as my school's photographer and I had to photograph 2 music concerts with another one on the way and a Shakespeare play next weekend. Busy busy busy
